Free trade is good. Government meddling is bad.
Good trade is good. Bad trade is bad.
I have some Native American blood, so I'll give you an example:
Indian trade beaver pelts for rifle = good deal.
Indian can always get more beaver pelts with a good rifle.
Indian trade island for beads = bad deal.
Both got something they wanted, but the Indian got hosed.
Free trade = fiction.
The fatal flaw of libertarianism is the failure to acknowledge what happens when a 'vacuum of power' is created.
American protecionist government = Indian forced to trade beaver pelt for rifle.
Indian ends up with too many rifles.
No problem. Beaver pelt good for nothing but hats.
A good rifle will buy anything.
Global Socialism = Indian forced to trade island for beads.
Big problem. Indian has to move to the reservation.
No beavers there, and white man took rifle.
Those are the choices. Clean house and restore America, or move to Soros' reservation.
Personally, I'd like to take what's left of my marbles and find a different playground. Unfortunately, there's nowhere left to go. Every other country on the planet is just as socialist, and most of them are poor.
The nicer ones won't take Americans over 35 unless they're packing millions$$$. That's very smart on their part. I probably would not contribute enough in taxes over what's left of my life to pay for the 'free' healthcare and retirement benefits I'd be using.
Contrast that with our open borders policy that attracts would-be welfare recipients from all over the globe.
We're rich because we're capitalist and because we're protectionist. We kept that recipe until the Fabians decided to dip an e-coli tainted finger into the cookie dough called 'welfare'.
Then to fix the nausea and diarrhea caused by welfare, they sold us remedies called 'globalism' and 'open borders'. It was never economically feasible for the U.S.A. It was never meant to be. It was a poison apple that tasted good going down, but now we're even sicker. A massive debt expansion hid the truth for about 15 years, and now the bill's come due.

(Blame me. I didn't vote for Perot.)

A bit simplified, but over all a 'spot on post'.
Thanks
