I agree that the sign was self-explanatory. Unfortunately, in this hyper-sensitive society we live in, the SS agents probably discussed the issue and realized there was no threat, but also knew they had to CYA.
The REAL villain in this whole mess is that effing cop. He should be suspended and evaluated for competence to perform his job. In addition, that citizen should contemplate a lawsuit against him and the police force.

Unfortunately, in this hyper-sensitive society we live in, the SS agents probably discussed the issue and realized there was no threat, but also knew they had to CYA. The SS agents made a mistake. They could have CYA'ed themselves by just running routine police and lookout checks. A visit to and walk thru the house was uncalled for. It is indefensible and those SS agents responsible for it should be reprimanded by the SS.

Sorry, but the officer's superiors should have squashed this before it ever went to the SS. Yes, the cop was responsible for the arrest and confiscation of the sign, but the police chief must have approved of reporting it to the SS.

Only hypersensitivity I perceive is if the other guy is to the Left and I am to the Right.
How about "we" take down the license numbers of the vehicles we see with "hate" signs on them and report it to our State DMV for investigation?
Especially those bumperstickers that use the marijuana leaf or "hemp" advertisements.
