The SS had no right to enter the man's home without a search warrant. No self-respecting judge would have given them one.

You don't have much experience with judges, do you? They are all interested only in covering their flanks. They know they cannot be punished for erring on the side of caution.

If you doubt this, think up the most ridiculous lie against yourself and phone it in to the child welfare services of your county. (If you haven't a child, so much the better.) Make sure you stutter and giggle uncontrollably as you make the anonymous report. They will come. They will tell you that you can do this easy or hard, but you have to bend over, let them in or else. And when you say no they will come back with a warrant and as many cops as they think they'll need. There is nothing you can do about it. Nothing.

This also works with animal abuse personnel, elder abuse, and people who investigate threats against politicians.

Be prepared to prove a negative...or teach a crash course in why you can't.

Funny story....

Many years ago, in SoCal...I had a great Shepard/Huskie mix dog, but she had a bad habit of making 30' garden hoses, 25', then 20', then 15'...!! Ha!!

One evening I caught her gnawing the end off...the hose. Grabbed her by the nape of the neck...and beat the end of the hose on the bricked patio..hard. All the while yelling "NO"!! Well she was yelping, like I was killing her...but I wasn't hitting her at all. While I was doing this I heard this gasp...from my next door neighbor's daughter..who was probably in her mid 20's.

A few days later...the local dog catcher guy stops by my house. Asks me about the "incident"...and wants to hear my story, and see the dog. Of course I tell him the story....and he checks out the dog..and the hose..and all is good with him. In fact he apologized for having to bother me..but he had to check it out.

About 4 or 5 months later...I was in the backyard at night...and this girl was screaming at her little kid...( who sounded sick )....to shut up!! I wanted to call DHS, pretty bad for revenge......but I knew the crap storm that I could cause for her...and didn't do it. I knew this girl was a decent parent...and just lost it for a few minutes.

Anyway...your post reminded me of that whole deal.

FRegards,

And when you say no they will come back with a warrant and as many cops as they think they'll need.

Not usually.
They know they can intimidate someone into going along, and get away with coming in without a warrant.
If you let 'em in, they don't need one.
But most folks are just plain scared, and believe that if they don't let them in that then they'll really be in deep shit.
But that's not the case - and often, judges will not sign a warrant based upon nothing more than an anonymous tip with no hard evidence to back it up.
Do you have proof to the contrary?
There must be something called "probable cause," however flimsy.
I cannot imagine a decent judge issuing a warant on this case.
No way.
