Yes, on all this, but “big tent” thinking is wrong from the get-go. Remember? it wasn’t until Bob Dole ran that the term was coined. It was wrong-headed then and even wronger now. The whole concept of “core values” MEANS something, and it’s about time the GOP recognized it and started winning again.
Many in the GOP leadership seem to believe winning is all about "politics".
But, to the voters, it's not. It's about "ideology".
Ironically, this bill may give the GOP a chance to return to its "core value" of small government and fiscal responsibility. If the economic woes have not abated by 2010 (an open question, but likely to my mind) the bill will leave the Democrats wide open on these issues.
The left never budges, always puts up a monolithic front when they want to. Republicans cave.
