The THEORY of an ancient Earth is nothing more,nor less,than a best guess consensus much as detectives try to discover what happened at a crime scene.

It really doesn't make a difference in finding the oil or gas whether the process of formation took 6000 or 60,000,000 years.If you base your search on observed data ,i.e. oil will likely be found in places that have specific characteristics,it is immaterial to your success just when those characteristics were formed.
