I used to have a wristwatch with an ampule of the stuff, to make the radium glow really brightly. One of the first ever LCD watches, back when most digitals had LEDs that required you to press a button to see the time. I could use it to see my way through a dark house.

I suppose now my hand is going to rot off or grow an extra digit...

Not to mention their watches. Mine has tritium markers.

Smoke detectors usually contain Americum oxide.

Or... if Tritium is so bad, maybe we should just go back to using Radium for glow-in-the-dark applications. That never hurt anyone and it was much better for watch dials than is used today.

The only known radiation injuries from these radium-containing clocks, watches, aircraft instruments, etc., occurred during their manufacture. In the early days, the faces were painted by artists by hand with radium-containing paint. The artists habitually "tipped" their brushes in their mouths, to keep the point sharp. In so doing, they ingested small quantities of radium. Radium in the body is quite damaging. It is a calcium analog chemically, and concentrates in bone. Many of these early radium painters got bone cancer from their exposure. This experience, beginning in the World War I era, led to the first standards for limiting occupational exposure to radiation.

“A lot of smoke detectors contain tritium. The nite sights on my Glock contain tritium.”

##

OPINION: The real point here in this article is the large quantity of signs that cannot be accounted for.

You have caused me to take an unscheduled break from my “Tinkering, Tailoring, Soldiering, . . .” there, George, old boy. lol

I just checked and mine shines on Super-LumiNova paint. So I guess there’s no Greer Garson “Lewk! Ees there! Ou-er Lrhadium” or other “-ium” moment for me.

Woo-Hoo -- GUN PORN!!
(what make is it?)

It's a Glock! (stock photo)

I didn't have any handy snapshots of mine. A set of Trijicons on a S&W M&P 9mm and some Meprolights on a S&W Model 686 and a Model 24.

Just 3 days ago I was the target of an FBI sting operation for these signs which I have the the receipts for!!It just makes me wonder how long have guys been on this case, or better yet how long before they realize they're chasing ghosts! As a PM from one of the nations leading General Contractors of Wal-Mart’s..I will give you the ugly truth! These 15,000 signs don't exist-2 possible motives....A) 1st being the fact that the amount missing..15,800 signs was derived from the fact Wal-Mart had their architects list these signs in the building plans for ALL NEW stores because Wal-Mart has a direct purchase contract with the exit sign manufacturer for “X” many signs (which the GC has to order usually 10 days before Grand Opening) However the manufacturer will not mfg the signs until the General Contractor orders them which I guarantee every time will be 2 weeks before turn-key....oops they conveniently require a 6 week lead time so the GC puts in an RFI (request4info) to the architect to use LED signs w/battery back-ups or ?? to make the deadline. The contracted/pre-determined $ is not refunded to Wal-Mart, and I'll bet 80% of them were never even made or shipped and if they were...guess what they ended up at the contractors Public Storage because they used different signs! or scenario (B) Wal-Mart has to pay about $50 for the legal disposal of each sign.....that said, WalMart hires all different local contractors to replace these tritium signs with an alternative exit sign for x $. The disposal of these signs is on the contractor who says we gave them to the store....over and over in the Wally World circle until the 15,800 signs (which had all been replaced) gets flagged as missing! Wal-Mart then has to report them as being stolen since they have the burden of proper disposal. Meanwhile while the missing tritium signs gets blown way out of proportion with Homeland big words like “dirty b_mb” causing a perfect smoke screen for the fact that Wal-Mart just saved $750,000!!!! by not knowing where these signs are! Either way.....do these guys really think there's big glowing green barn out in a field somewhere that someone... like me...can secretly drive out and get 10 at a time to sell on e-bay?? I hope this doesn't piss off the wrong people....but then they already scared off my buyer and his $500 by asking him if he intends to build a b_mb with these 10 signs! Mission accomplished, he didn't call me the next day so the next call happened to a local buyer (now the signs were available for the failed sting operation) Not only that California Radiologic Health Branch kept my signs after proving ownership. I can't back any of this as it is all my own speculation....but I know it's accurate.
