Public comments now being accepted about Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and SCHIP (Sunlight AFTER Signing)
Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

During his campaign, President Obama promised:

Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

Well, when the “new” whitehouse.gov web site went up on January 20th, there was a “Five day review” page on the site to fulfill this promise.
Then, Congress passed the “Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009,” and nothing appeared on the whitehouse website about it. The bill never appeared on the “five day review” page, and was signed into law only 2 days after it passed the Senate.
Then, on February 4th, the SCHIP Reauthorization Act, as ammended and passed by the Senate, also passed the House. Later that same day, President Obama had a signing ceremony for that bill. Again, there was no posting on the whitehouse.gov web site.
Well, these two bills are finally on the whitehouse.gov website, and public comments are being accepted.
The Ledbetter Act is there in it’s full text. Click here to go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing_room/LillyLedbetterFairPayActPublicReview/ and leave a comment.
And there are links to a couple versions of the SCHIP bill. Click here to go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/the_press_office/SCHIP_Public_Review/ and comment on the SCHIP Reautoriazation act.
“Sunlight after signing” wasn’t exactly what he promised.
