Gun Owners Association Larry Pratt concerned about Atty. Gen. Eric Holder
The Andrea Shea King Show ^ | Feb. 12, 2009 | Andrea Shea King

TONIGHT AT 9 ET on THE ANDREA SHEA KING SHOW

Own a gun? You're probably among most gun owners who are concerned about what the Barack Obama presidency will mean for our 2nd Amendment protections.

Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America (GOA), shares your concern. Of particular interest is Eric Holder, Barack Obama’s choice for Attorney General. Pratt does not consider Holder to be in support of the second amendment.

"The President's choice for U.S. Attorney General, Eric Holder, is an anti-gun extremist who has assailed gun owners since his days in the Bill Clinton administration."
BANG!

Holder (Dep. Atty. Gen.-1997-2001) supports a 3-day waiting period for handgun purchases, one-gun-a-month rationing, licensing and registration of all gun owners, mandatory so-called smart gun technology, a lifetime gun ban for certain juvenile offenses and regulating gun shows out of existence.

BANG!

In 2000, Holder was instrumental in the Clinton Administration's effort to strong-arm firearms manufacturers into voluntarily accepting regulations that had stalled in the Congress.

In a brazen legislation-by-extortion plot, the federal government filed suit against gun makers but offered to drop the suit if the companies would bow to the administration's demands.

GOA and its members took the lead in opposing Holder and the Clinton Administration and slowed down implementation of the agreement until it completely went away when Clinton left office.

One company went along with the deal but after intense pressure from gun owners, no others joined the unholy alliance.

BANG!

After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, in an op-ed in the Washington Post, Holder pushed for more gun control and greater restrictions on gun shows, even though the terrorists were armed with box cutters that could be purchased at any hardware store.

Holder joined Janet Reno and 11 other former Justice Department officials in an amicus brief before the Supreme Court arguing in favor of the gun ban in Washington D.C.

The Holder/Reno brief also took the position that the Second Amendment protects a collective government right, not an individual right.

BANG!

One day into the 111th session of Congress was all it took for Illinois Democrat and former Black Panther, Bobby Rush, to take a run on a new measure of gun control. Problem is, quite a few don’t like the language—in particular, the part about “anyone wishing to purchase, own or possess a ‘qualifying firearm’ would have to be licensed by the state or the federal government in a licensing program managed by the Attorney General.” Placing our Bill of Rights in the hands of one man.

BANG!

With an eye on the bill’s details that require redundant personal identification, a release of personal health records to the Attorney General and other unnecessary, intrusive measures, Pratt and other gun rights proponents find it a harsh pill to swallow, and a disturbing political double standard that shows a government more preoccupied with its own citizens than foreign enemies.

The bill’s mandate requires gun owners apply for a federal firearms I.D. card.

BANG!

A so-called “encoded ammunition” or “serialized ammunition” bills would require ammunition manufacturers to engrave a serial number on the base of the bullet and the inside of the cartridge casing of each round of ammunition for popular sporting caliber center-fire rifles, all center-fire pistols, all .22 rimfire rifles and pistols, and all 12 gauge shotguns. In all but one of the bills, people would be required to forfeit all personally owned non-“encoded” ammunition. After a certain date, it would be illegal to possess non-“encoded” ammunition. Reloading would be rendered illegal.

People would be required to separately register every box of “encoded ammunition” and the registration would be supplied to the police. Each box of ammunition would have a unique serial number, thus a separate registration. Gun owners would have to maintain records if they sell ammunition to anyone, including family members or friends. The cost of ammunition would soar, for police and private citizens alike. The Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturing Institute estimates it would take three weeks to produce ammunition currently produced in a single day. A tax of five cents a round would be imposed on private citizens, not only upon initial sale, but every time the ammunition changes hands thereafter.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Larry Pratt has been Executive Director of Gun Owners of America for 30 years. GOA is a national membership organization of 300,000 Americans dedicated to promoting their second amendment freedom to keep and bear arms.

GOA lobbies for the pro-gun position in Washington and is involved in firearm issues in the states. GOA’s work includes providing legal assistance to those involved in lawsuits with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, the federal firearms law enforcement agency.

Pratt has appeared on numerous national radio and TV programs such as NBC’s Today Show, CBS’ Good Morning America, CNN’s Crossfire and Larry King Live, Fox’s Hannity & Colmes, MSNBC’s Phil Donahue and Dan Abrams show and many others. His columns have appeared in newspapers across the country.

Feelin' Trigger-Happy? Itchy fingers should report to my show this evening.

Gun goes off at 9 P.M. ET -- Ready? Aim? Fire!

I will honor the 2nd Amendment, regardless of what the Nazis do. When it comes to fascist tyrants, the only right thing to do is resist them.

It's easy to proclaim, “my cold dead hands,” or “come and get them” but will you really. Friends of the 2nd. Amendment, the time nears to stand on your beliefs and not back down. Once firearms are gone there will be no means of resistance. Can we do something about it? I believe so, and that is to stand together and be strong. I expect before this ever happens there will be a call to arms for all patriots to muster as whatever location. Millions of former and active military took an oath to defend the constitution of the united states..I hold true to my oath how about you.?

"Think globally, act locally".

It works for the Alinsky types. It should work for us as well. Get active locally. Network. Find others you can count on if the S truly HTF.

Prep. Practice. Gear up. Pray. Sacrifice chickens. Whatever you feel you need to do. Get it done now because if things do get hairy, it's gonna happen fast.

Exactly, just remember what happened in (the former) Great Britain and Australia when their citizens did not fight for their Gun Rights... They lost them, and once they have been taken they are almost impossible to get back!

So get into the fight Join the GOA, NRA and your State and Local Gun Rights Groups... Now before its to late!

Oh, and the NRA will? We need all hands in this battle not just the ones you like!

Demand more from the goa such as the lawsuits against Chicago, Oak Park and Evanston.

Demand they do more for gunrange protection.

Demand they join the fight with lawsuits against the anti’s.

Demand they act more like the Second Amendment Foundation and the NRA or else you’re just wasting your money.

No disrespect intended but you might also want to place most of those demands on the frigging NRA, You know as well as I that over the years they have become lackluster at best! They stepped aside during the Heller battle while the GOA filed briefs in his and the 2As defense, the GOA has TIMELY activism emails and letters...

I held an NRA membership through my entire military career, but after I saw what they were doing... making backroom deals with politicians to water down legislation just to get something passed, I left!

The NRA (for now) has about quadruple the membership and funds of the GOA but are they throwing the bulk of that power directly into a lot of the battles happening, no they would rather do organizational fund raising, hold shooting matches, seminars and send out rifleman magazines.

I dropped the NRA years ago do to their politicization of a lot of 2A issues, instead of FIGHTING for the 2A they were making back rooms deals and watering down critical legislation, I joined the GOA and have been extremely happy with their performance and actions to date.

The ONLY reason I am rejoining the NRA is hopefully we can clean the organization out and again have a group that gets up and fights for our rights instead of holding frigging gun matches and seminars!

WE need all hands in this battle, so you can play the petty “who’s the better gun rights group” POLITICS or you can welcome all of the many other 2A groups into the fray and kick some butt!

I Actually think a lot of this GOA vs NRA tension comes directly from the NRA as they have watched their base whittle away over the years do to their inaction and refusal to take on the tough fights...

When some one is stepping on you toes and calling you out for your bad moves, you can either fight back or back away and do name calling which is what the NRA and its members have been doing for awhile now.

As I said we need all hands in the upcoming battles, so I think the opposing groups need to take a “chill pill” and lets get on with it!
