Elementary as it may seem that we should hear both sides of an issue before making up our minds, that is seldom what happens on politically correct issues today in our schools and colleges. The biggest argument of the left is that there is no argument-- whether the issue is global warming, "open space" laws or whatever.Some students may even imagine that they have already heard the other side because their teachers may have given them their version of other people's arguments or motives.
But a jury would never be impressed by having the prosecution tell them what the defendant's defense is. They would want to hear the defense attorney present that case.
Excruciatingly obvious after Sowell says it.
And "Yes", they did and do. At ages 11, 12, and 11 -- years ago, they were standing up to bully liberal college professors. Suffering grade punishments, and still ticking strong. And to this day, they each still stand. They weren't taught to fear life, or to succumb to mass hysteria. But to use every gift the good Lord has given them, to apply themselves to each and every opportunity, to never lie to themselves, and to live as if each day were the day the Good Lord was to assess their time spent on Earth.
Carpe Diem! To Seize the Day.
After talking with my husband about liberals demonizing conservatives and even libertarians tonight, I realized there is no logic to what liberals are presenting and in fact they rely completely on the emotionalism of the presentation of their ideas because the logic is often not there on many of their stands or they don't withstand sever scrutiny. Liberals do everything possible to change the subject to "these people are demons." Thus this steers away from intelligent explorations of the subject matter.
In my opinion this way of demonizing others also needs to be addressed with a child in addition to intelligent exploration to both sides of an issue. Demonizing can be as powerful as being the unattractive child in elementary school that is laughed at or shamed. Very few people have the spine to stand alone and take everyone's hate for standing up for their beliefs, thoughts, and values. The children also need to be taught to fight those accusations or to not use such childish, cruel, deflecting tactics. This needs to be shown for what it is deflection and cruel outing in society and in circles of society. It is a powerful tool that has been unfortunately widely useful and effective.
sever=severe
Me too but at the usual age. : ) They were in college when they were 11 and 12?
Yes. In the ever declining state of CA.
Ask students who started the Vietnam War.
and then ask them who started the Korean War.
Maybe you and Dr. Sowell can get together and figure out a plan.
