I don’t have a TV handy. Was it really that bad? From the descriptions of the Freepers, it sounded like a 10 year old.

I think the ten year old is a good description. Although a ten year old would speak more plainly and directly to the question. He spoke in monologues full of obfuscation and deception—not answering any question. He is a long winded liar in summary. Feel tired and confused after every lying answer which I am starting to think was his tactic.

Worse.

It’s a horrible first press conference. Worse than Bush’s worst, which was the “thumping” press conference. Much worse IMO.

I caught the last half of it, and I wouldn't quite go that far. However, it was still painfully obvious that he's way out of his league.

While President Bush wasn't the greatest public speaker ever, he at least got the point across that he knew what he was talking about. Obama talks in circles, seemingly losing his train of thought while he's speaking, and he still talks on and on without saying ANYTHING. The little direct bit of answering he did was demonstrably false (i.e. "no earmarks in this bill") or completely illogical (i.e., the huge deficit is a big problem I inherited, so we'll spend an extra trillion or so--no problem).

When it came to military affairs, he conveniently omitted facts or sidestepped no-brainers. He described how GEN Petraeus was looking into a strategy for Afghanistan and it was being developed in cooperation with other folks. He didn't mention that GEN Petraeus had already recommended a surge that was to be announced last week, but Obama ordered it put on hold. In response to "will you allow photos to be taken of servicemembers' caskets," he just said he would take a look at the policy rather than stating an emphatic "NO!"

Anyway, I was highly unimpressed. No surprise.
