Most “unwanted pregnancy” movies end with birth. For one simple reason: if they have an abortion the movie is over way too quick. When you’ve got an hour and a half of movie to fill “let’s have an abortion” “OK” ends the movie in about half an hour.

I guess that settles that.

I didn’t want to do that because I thought it would be theft.

You might as well make a new thread out of this.

While not political, I think “Coach Carter” is a very good conservative movie.

I would say one of the best is lord of the rings. Good against evil...

Ghost - for the same reason... a movie that captured the banality of evil...

“Do you think that helocentricism vs geocentricism was hashed out in science class at the high school level?”

Who said anything about High School? High School didn’t exist back then. It is a modern invention that keeps young people trapped in infantile dependence that stunts their thinking. Like not debating the issues of their day.

It appears that the answer if “Yes, there was debate” or there would not have been a lame attempt to equate educational standards of today to the medieval ages.

It is really a shame that the history of education itself is not taught. It can be a real eye opener.

True...I guess an “abortion” would “abort” the movie...

The way “Juno” handled it was well-done...and so accurate. I guess the NR people kinda agree w me (their #8 movie)

Juno did do it well. I don’t know if it was a great “conservative” movie. It’s not like they ever discuss why not to abort or anything. It’s a good movie, lots of good actors and a fun story. I’m not entirely sure I buy it as “conservative” though, maybe because I’ve listened to the commentary track and learned that all the makers were the usual crowd of liberal bed wetters.

Thanks for that list, there are some I will rent.

Ones I don’t agree with are “300” (all the bad guys were Americans so I wouldn’t pick it just on that point), and “The Dark Knight” (both good and bad guys are evil, the good guys ends justify their evil means the bad guys ends don’t justify their evil means, it was well cast and had good acting, good cinematography and editing, I expect it will win some awards) I’m glad “Serenity” made it to the extra list. I think it’s a conservative gem.

I said High school LEVEL, i.e. a basic education to youths expected to have a ground level education in basic subjects.

My point being that conflicting scientific theories are debated by actual scientists, not by children learning the basics of a subject.

If you wish to instruct a youth in Biology, and have him be “educated” in the subject, then an understanding of the theory of evolution is essential. “Debate” about evolution is not germane to the understanding of science. To impart an understanding of science (as practiced by scientists) is the purpose of science class.

If you’re going to include action movies might as well include: The Substitute (the later Rambos), (later Rocky’s), The Patriot (the real one about the Revolution), North and South (ok it was Mini-series), Lord of The Rings, Narnia..know there are more, but can’t remember right now!

Do you mean Robert Deniro? Brazil is a masterpiece. It’s not supposed to be easy to watch.

So your basic high school teenager is a child to you? They are not deserving of the beginnings of respect and the use of basic critical thinking skills? Part of the practice of science IS the debate. Even in the ‘70s, we dabated evolution in High School Biology class. I guess that wasn’t an education to you. Amazing.

Yes, they are children who deserves a basic education in science in science class.

If they want to learn what is and what is not science, and questions that can and cannot be answered utilizing the scientific method, and how things are decided in scientific conflict; that would be part of science education, but a rather tangential one to the actual scope of the discoveries and their applications (i.e. understanding how life works, how atoms work, how gravity works, etc).

My science education involved a lot more calculus equations and molecular structures, and a lot less “why are there still apes?”.

In addition, a basic education in science has nothing to do with any biblical interpretation as to the age of the earth or the fixity of species.

One doesn’t teach science by saying “and this is what is supportable by the scientific method” and then “but this is what my interpretation of the Bible is in regards to this scientific finding”.

Then we disagree.

High School students should NOT be treated as children. And they should have had enough science before high school to deal with more in depth topics.

Your approach is killing American education. No wonder students are dropping out. And their maturity levels are so low.

Now I am responsible for the state of American education?

But if we just tell them that ‘ignore all that science in support of an old earth and the change in species, there is a “scientific” hypothesis that there is an “intelligent designer”.’ then all things will suddenly be right with our education system?

Wow. Maybe they should have worked harder on those critical thinking skills and debate.
