GOP Senators Risk Political Backlash Over Support of Stimulus Bill Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter have risked the wrath of their fellow Republicans and constituents to help push the controversial economic spending plan over the finish line

FOXNews.com Saturday, February 07, 2009

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Sen. Olympia Snow, also of Maine, have broken with other Republicans to support the Democrats' plan for spending and tax cuts to stimulate the economy. (AP)

Until Friday, President Obama's plea for bipartisanship support of his costly plan for stimulating the economy mostly had fallen on deaf GOP ears, but that changed when three Republican moderates pledged their support.

In doing so, Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter risked drawing the wrath of their fellow Republicans and of some constituents

The trio's support is expected to give Democrats the 60 votes needed in the Senate to advance to a final vote on the $827 billion stimulus bill next week -- and ultimately push the controversial mix of massive spending and tax cuts over the finish line.

I called Specter’s office a couple of days ago. I’m convinced this guy doesn’t care how much pressure is put on him by Republicans. He’s used to doing whatever he wants, and maybe he won’t even live to finish out his term.

Good idea.
Once I internalize my distaste for a product, I avoid it like rotten chicken.
Ben and Jerry’s - will never touch my lips even when free.
Vermont Teddy Bears. I don’t care if they advertise on my local talk radio station that carries a full line up of conservatives. f’em.
Maine. This is easy.
LL Bean stuff is for Subaru driving folks. No problema.
Over priced Maple Syrup? I will buy the darker Canadian stuff. Not sure if I still am angry with the hose heads...

“Collins didn’t rule out the possibility of changing her mind after Senate and House negotiators work out the differences between the bills approved by the two bodies.”

“It’s important we get this bill to the president’s desk as soon as possible,” she told FOX News. “But if the bill that comes back to the Senate from the conference committee is once again bloated with wasteful spending and it’s too expensive, then I’ll vote against it.”

Translation = “If they don`t give me more goodies, I will vote against it.”

How come one stupid senator out of a Congress of 535 reps holds the key to a trillion $ “stimulus” package? How did we get to this sorry state? Why hasn’t the RNC leadership stripped her of all ranking membership in the senate committees? Why aren’t the deafening roars of our rank-and-file not being heard on the biggest sell-out of the past 50 years?
