There is a fundamental difference between a civil war and a revolutionary war. There is a marked difference between succession and revolution as well. Pardon my density, but please explain what the difference is. I do not see it.

Secession would be a state or states leaving the union due to breach of contract, ie. the federal government effectively ignoring the Constitution.
Revolution is, well, self-explanatory.

Revolution = The overthrow of a government by those who are governed.
Secession = The act of withdrawing from an organization, union, or especially a political entity.
Civil war = A war between organized groups to take control of a nation or region.
Revolutionary war = A war to overthrow the government by those who are governed.
