NY still officially has the “New York FOOTBALL Giants”, to distinguish them from the baseball team. Of course, NY no longer has a Giants BB as they are now in SanFran.

Yeah, another thing teams used to do was make their colors similar to the local colleges, as college football was a lot more popular. The original Chargers uniforms mimicked UCLA and the original Falcons uniforms mimicked the Georgia Bulldogs.

The NY Jets started as the Titans (get it, Giants, Titans) then changed to Jets to rhyme with Nets and Mets. For a few years people called all three teams the "Ets."

My favorite goofy sports name was when the New Orleans Jazz moved to Utah and kept their team name. There's nothing that reflects the culture of Utah like Jazz music.
