I don't think a Santorum comeback is possible in the present climate.

If that is true, then how is Toomey going to beat him?

Why is Santorum so toxic, given that Bush is not in the picture?

Toomey was congressman from the Allentown-Scranton area, same as the mime. Santorum is from the Pittsburgh area, which still gets the hind teat in Pennsylvania politics. Geography and the sheer numbers make the difference here. Plus the fact that Santorum was specifically targeted by the Gay mafia and the "all or nothing" conservatives.

Toomey is a better campaigner and is well-liked by the blue collar crowd (his former district votes RAT by default so long as the RAT can convince the sheeple he is a moderate). Both Santorum and Specter give the distinct impression that they come from the Country Club wing of the Republican Party. Specter gets away with it because he's from Philadelphia and votes with the unions. Plus the jackasses have never run a very formidable candidate against him. Why should they when Arlen votes with them so much?
