That is a very unfair assessment of government employees. I left private sector in 2003 and have worked for the VA since then and have never worked so hard in my life.

Like many stereotypes this one will have its exceptions too.
That being said, this generalization is probably more accurate than most.
When the rest of us are losing our jobs or are facing a strong prospect of doing so, it infuriates me to see govt. employees are mostly exempt from layoffs or budget cuts.
