Question for the masses out there: Isn't this the same Robert Mugabe that O campaigned for while he was a senator?

If so, he must now think differently...perhaps due to a different outlook or new data.

If Obama succeeds in removing Mugabe five minutes sooner than he otherwise would have remained in office, I’ll give him a tip of my cap. The man is an absolute blight on the African continent, he must be removed.

Obama campaigned for his cousin, Odinga...but I don’t recall him campaigning for Mugabe.

China and Russia, who have significant financial interests in Zimbabwe, vetoed moves to impose UN sanctions. Mr Obama and his aides believe that, with the growing international outcry over conditions there and the devastating loss of life from the cholera outbreak, Beijing and Moscow can now be persuaded at the very least to abstain when the issue of sanctions comes to another vote.

I wonder just what he thinks he can give away to make them cooperate.

This crap isn't as easy as it looks, is it WonderBoy?

Let’s play pick a dictator! Georgie, you go first...Whack! Nice work, Dubya. That one actually needed killing very badly. Now you, Barry-—ooh, that Iranian one is too hard for you, and you might have better traction against an African. Yes, you can hit Mugabe, yes you can! And just think of all the employment you will whip up in America!

Same Mugabe, and same Russia and China.

The snake and the dragon will make quick work of Zero. There's nothing in it for them to make Zero look good.

Sanctions? What can sanctions do to Zimbabweans, that Robert Mugabe hasn’t already done, and long ago?

Will Dear Leader also issue a stern warning?

If he can pull this one off, I’ll give him props. Mugabe is already ripe for the toppling so one extra push and he’ll probably go. So Obama is smart as

- this is relatively low-hanging fruit.
- really needs doing as Mugabe does need to go.

Obama does not want us meddling in Iraq or Afghanistan but it’s fine for him to interfere in Zimbabwe. Within a week Barry has proven to be one of the biggest hypocrites ever.

That was Odinga. He is Mugabe lite.

If Obama wants to topple that sick human rights abusing trash Mugabe, then I can support that.

My guess is this was brought to his attention by Geitner who thanked his parents for having raised him in foreign countries including time in "Rhodesia" <<< the old name of Mugabe's Zimbabwe before the Europeans were slaughtered.

Mugabe's been on a political death watch for the last three years. He's long past his expiration date.

Seems like Obama is just positioning himself to take credit for the inevitable.

I really don't care, as long as he goes. Hopefully, his own people will hang him.

We could use non-military means against him. Maybe we could print a lot of Zimbabwe dollars and destabalize their currency.... wait, that's what Mugabe is already doing himself.

This looks like an issue where it is OK to meddle in other governments when our national interests aren't at stake (like in Zimbabwe or Sudan), but if our national interests are at stake (like Iraq, Iran or North Korea) then our actions don't have "pure" motives.
