You should not buy insurance on anything from State Farm or from Allstate. They are the two best at collecting premiums and the two worst at paying losses.

A few years ago Central Indiana was pounded by a series of fierce hailstorms. Many, many roofs were damaged and had to be replaced. In my neighborhood of 45 homes, probably 60% got new roofs. State Farm and Allstate did not replace any roofs unless they were sued or threatened with suit by attorneys.

State Farm pulling out of Florida is actually a benefit to Floridians. Maybe they can take Allstate with them.

Agreed. When I bought my last house, I wouldn't consider getting a quote from either one of them. I would buy from a small unknown company before I would use either of them.

Same here in Central Texas. After a bad hailstorm a few years ago, just about everyone on our street filed claims for roof damage. Our company (Travelers) paid out immediately. The only two neighbors who had trouble getting their claim approved were State Farm customers.

“You should not buy insurance ... from Allstate.’

I had auto and homeowner’s insurance from Allstate for 30 years. I never filed a homeowner’s claim, but I had several auto claims over the years, including one for a car that was totaled. Allstate paid promptly in all cases and even successfully defended me in a bogus lawsuit filed in connection with one of the accidents.

Having said that, I am with USAA now, thanks to mrs riverdawg. I gave Allstate a chance to match USAA’s policy and premium and they declined even to try, saying it was their experience that they couldn't compete with them.

State Farm replaced my roof in GA with hail damage this summer. they paid the entire cost since I had replacement coverage. not a single problem.

I have had State Farm for twenty four years and never had anything but first-class service when I needed it...

Going through that right now, State Farm Claims Office has poor communications, even the local office grimaces when on the phone with them

As a note, State Farm has put one totally new roof on our house after a hail storm, repaired our windshields, and also hail damage on vehicles. We have had a second roof repaired, not replaced by State Farm.

I have no doubt about what you say. I am pointing this out to ask why SF doesn’t react in a consistent manner?
