You Yanks may wish to consider drafting and implementing “The Carter Law”. The thrust of said proposed law should be this:

“1) Ex-Presidents, in exchange for Valuable Consideration (the sum and sufficiency of which is hereby mutually accepted) agree to retire into Relative Obscurity upon leaving the White House at the end of their term of service.

2) Valuable consideration comprises one million US dollars, continued protection provided by the Secret Service for the rest of the life of the ex-President and/or his Spouse, and exemption from all taxes of any sort for the rest of the life of the ex-President only

3) “Relative Obscurity” precludes the ex-President from engaging in any activity whatsoever that may put him or her in the position of acting as an official spokesperson for any person, organization, or cause. Specifically excluded from this provision is service on Boards, being the author of Books or musical recordings, or acting as an officer of a private company. Additional individual exemptions may be sought by application to the Attorney General who will consider such applications on a case-by-case basis.

4) Penalties for breaching the Carter Law shall be no more that 50 years in solitary confinement in a Federal penetentiary or a fine of $100 million US Dollars, or both.”

That would fix the Carter situation for once and all, as well as preclude Obama (or any subsequent President) from following Carter’s example.

LOL!

You don't understand something about our country--Democrats don't have to obey laws. (See our Treasury Secretary who didn't pay taxes, the former Clintonian advisor who stuffs documents down his pants and doesn'tdo time, our Secy of State who never paid any price for missing documents that showed up in her quarters with her fingerprints on them that proved she'd ruined the fortunes of retirees and others, etc.)

Aren't you glad I've given you this valuable tip? :)

I'd rather we have dueling.

It would really eliminate entire classes, and provide good entertainment.
