According to Jr’s babysitter at the apartment on Capitol Hill Ann’s parents were supporting her. I do wonder if she also worked since her plan as relayed by her friends was that she would work, go to school and take care of the baby. The babysitter said she took care of Jr while Ann attended night classes at the University, so she could very well have worked during the daytime. There would have been plenty of jobs leading up to and including during the time the World’s Fair was open (April 21,1962 to October 21, 1962). Ann would have been eligible for in state tuition in WA state which would more than make up for the tuition paid at UH at Manoa. One reason I have always doubted that Jr was born in HI is a total lack of infant pictures. There are many pictures of Jr after he and his mother returned to HI in early 1963 but the only baby photo ever released was of a 6 to 8 month old released after the death of Madelyn Dunham. The photo is a professional one with only Jr in it. If Ann had Jr in HI would the proud grandparents not have taken as many photos as possible of their first born grandchild?
The only time I could see Ann trying to get state aid was when she returned to HI in early 1963 and lived in the apartment on Alexander St.which had been rented for her by her parents. She lived there for mere months before moving back in with her parents at the home on Kamehameha Ave. and registering to attend spring classes at UH at Manoa.

"If Ann had Jr in HI would the proud grandparents not have taken as many photos as possible of their first born grandchild? "

This is why I suspect Ann had Baby O in Kenya and took a direct flight to Seattle, Washington (or Vancouver BC, which I suspect)using the polar route from London. While in Seattle, I believe Madelyn took care of the Hawaii birth particulars. I am suspecting that Madelyn, being a bank executive, knew how to put it together so that Baby O was a citizen of Hawaii. Hence, the entry in the Indonesian school application which shows the place of birth in Honolulu, August 4, 1961. It is the Indonesian school application that really throws me. That kind of evidence contradicts any idea of a Kenyan birth.
