Early in his speech, Obama said:
“Forty-four Americans have now taken the presidential oath.”
Actually, only 43 Americans have taken the presidential oath. No, not because Obama was born in Kenya.
From Wikipedia: “There have been 43 people sworn into office, and 44 Presidencies, due to the fact that Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms and is counted chronologically as both the 22nd and the 24th President.”
This is a minor point, to be sure. It certainly isn’t as important as Dan Quayle’s misspelling of “potato.” I wonder if any of the mainstream media will point this out.
Dan Quayle didn't misspell potato. The sponsors of the event had the words pre-prepared, and they spelled it p-o-t-a-t-o-e. Quayle turned the card over and saw the "incorrect" spelling and corrected the child who spelled it correctly the first time. I recall the event, and saw Quayle's surprise at the alternate spelling.
You say potato, I say potatoe.
The same thing occurred to me during the speech!
So he was indeed wrong on the number?
I don’t think Obama was a history major...so how is he supposed to know that the Grover Cleveland who was the 22nd President and the Grover Cleveland who was the 24th President were the same person? It’s like expecting him to know how many states there are.
