The Oxford student who plans to make baldness a thing of the past

Thomas Whitfield: The Oxford student who plans to make baldness a thing of the past An Oxford PhD is developing a new technology that he believes will offer effective hair loss prevention to the masses.

By Richard Tyler

Thomas Whitfield is hoping his business will give him plenty to smile about There comes a moment in most men's lives when they have to admit that they are losing their hair. The realisation is painful enough; doing something about it is even worse.

The slippery descent into lotions and pills, toupés and skin grafts fills most with horror. But where there's vanity there's money to be made. Hair loss can also, for some, equal a loss of career prospects and of confidence. Suddenly a solution turns from vanity product into an essential and valuable treatment. So keep an eye on Thomas Whitfield.

The 27-year-old Oxford biochemistry PhD is working on a venture called TRX2 (derived from the Greek word for hair, Trichos. "The two for second – your second generation of hair," he tells me).

It promises to make "hair loss a thing of the past".

I dunno - I’m pretty happy with a growing forehead but if this young feller could figger a way to make the hair growing in my nose and ears and eyebrows stop there and move north, I’d be a pretty happy guy.

Only girlie men would worry about baldness or dying
their hair as they age.

I am 69 and it is funny to see men that look as old
or older than I with dyed hair.

Remember - you're not losing more hair, you're getting more head!

From the picture in the article I'm betting electricity is involved somehow.
But for the bald I offer The Hare Club for Men. Raise rabbits, take a pelt and fashion a toupee’. No one will ever notice.

Nor to I. Gave up the fight about a year ago and took it all off (the top) in the shower. Wife likes it, I like it, and that’s all that matters. Actually more work than keeping the hair, but the clean look is worth it. Kept my face hair though...

I am one of those guys that just doesn’t look good bald.

I have a very lumpy skull and if I were to shave down to skin it would look terrible. Hopefully this guy can be successful because I’d jump all over the chance to grow my hair back.

I’d still get it cut super short though, after 20 years in the military it just feels WRONG to have hair longer than a quarter inch.

My buddy looks awesome bald with a goatee. I think my wife would leave me in a heartbeat for him if I were to stop spoiling her so much.
