From today’s press briefing with Press Secretary Dana Perino.

Q Dana, on that, the President has said numerous times that he's sprinting to the finish in these final days and weeks. On that point, then, when's the last time he was working the phones on this situation?

Dana: President Bush every morning is working with his intel advisors, and obviously works with Steve Hadley every morning at 7:00 a.m., and Secretary Rice and he talk several times a day. And we keep you updated when appropriate on phone calls; we don't read all of them out to you.

Q You still say that the President's last public appearance is going to be the speech to the nation tomorrow night?

Dana: Yes.

Q What's he doing the rest of the time? I mean, he's going to Camp David, obviously. What's he doing in -- the rest of the time in private?

Dana: I'll see if I can -- it's private time, but he'll have things that he needs to do around here, meetings with staff, a goodbye lunch with the senior staff on Friday, and, you know, some calls that -- some requests for calls from world leaders that I think will take place between now and then. And we'll provide you an update on those if appropriate.

Q Any packing going on?

Dana: A lot of the packing is done. Mrs. Bush is very organized and she has a lot of the books -- most of what they have to take back are the books that they have, and obviously their clothes, but a lot of those books have already made their way -- are at least on their way to Texas. So he hasn't had to do a lot of packing himself.

Q And is anything special going on at Camp David this weekend?

Dana: Let me find out for you. I know that they wanted to spend one more weekend at Camp David. It is a place that they have thoroughly enjoyed. They love having their family there, they've spent a lot of special moments there, and it's a good place to get away from Washington, D.C. I think that it will probably be really cold up there this weekend, but he loves to be able to go up there and he can ride his mountain bike as well, and just spend a little bit of quiet time. Let me see if I can get a guest list for you. I don't know -- I don't think it's too extensive; I'll find out.

White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, right, takes some time for some farewell pictures with staff and members of the press corps, Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, in the White House pressroom in Washington after her daily briefing. With Perino is Ginny Vicario of ABC.

So anyway, they put the cake in front of me, and the president, "Don't blow it out yet," he and Gillespie stand up, they stand behind me, photographer comes in, he starts snapping pictures while the president and Gillespie and the stewards sing happy birthday to me, and I'm sitting there just choked up and I'm saying to myself, "I just wish my parents were alive so that I could be able to show them the pictures here and to tell them about this." And then after they finished singing happy birthday -- and I'm sure that I'm beet red in the face -- the president sits back down and says, "Well, let's have a couple bites and we gotta go because I got this Medal of Freedom ceremony. You're coming, aren't you, Limbaugh?" I said, "Yeah, I'd be honored to go in there."

This is such a sweet story. It really just hit me that he's leaving and now I'm really crying.

Lovely portrait of Dana! She’s so pretty, I can’t imagine there is every a bad portrait of her (unless I drew it), but the lavender really makes her “pop”.

That was a great story!! I really regret that President Bush is leaving office. I had so hoped that perhaps my army son would get a chance to shake hands with him at some point.

Thanks for the ping to the Dose. I hate it that he is leaving, but I am happy for all of them that they can leave that sewer which our nation’s capital has become.

I am so glad my husband and I got to go there this spring so that we could go through the White House while he was still in office. I daresay I won’t be going back for quite some time.

jonny, your portrait of Dana Perino is fantastic!! You really capture her expressiveness in her eyes...great job!

I think Dana Perino is wonderful. Last time I called the White House comment line, I asked the Operator to let Mrs Perino know that she did a great job. She was tough with the disrespectful press corps but she was always calm and professional.

‘...glad my husband and I got to go there this spring so that we could go through the White House while he was still in office...’

I did the same! I’ve always wanted to visit the White House and made it my goal to get there while President Bush was in Office....and I’m thrilled that I made it.
I just can’t stand that he’s leaving.....Tuesday will be unique for me....I will watch NO TV!
