I tried, believe me. Watched the first 5 or 6 episodes from
the beginning and it never interested me.
I feel like such an abject failure not liking a
conservative show all my conservative friends like.
You don't know what hardship it causes...

Yeah I thought about it but figured I've missed so much it wouldn't make much sense.
Oh well, guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the Antiques Roadshow Live Thread...

Usually, when I watch TV, I record the shows and watch them later. I can fast-forward through the commercials, so I can watch an hour show in 45 minutes. Everyone should watch TV this way, unless they like watching commercials.

The LCD screens also use alot more electricity than the old vacuum tube screens, although not as much as the plasmas. That's only correct if not taking into account and adjusting for the generally larger size of digital TVs. Comparing per square inch, plasma TVs are using on average 10%-25% less energy than CRT (plasmas use less energy when displaying darker picture or motion scenes, while vacuum tubes / CRTs and LCDs power usage is basically constant) and LCDs are using about 25%-50% less than plasmas, depending on the light / brightness / contrast parameters and settings. CRTs and plasmas also emit a lot more heat than LCDs. CRT sets have the most lead, LCDs have the least. Some newer LCDs wih multiples of 60Hz internal frequencey (120 / 240 / 480Hz) to reduce pixelation, might use more energy, but still not as much as plasma. According to preliminary studies, the upcoming LED / OLED TVs will use much less energy than LCDs (30%-60% and not requiring backlighting), in addition to having brighter colors. But that's still years off commercially.
