JAKARTA, Indonesia – A ferry capsized in a severe storm and crashing waves in central Indonesia on Sunday and officials said around 250 people were feared dead.
Eighteen survivors were rescued by fishing boats, but the fate of the others remained unclear, said Taufik, a port official at Parepare on the island of Sulawesi, where the ferry began its journey. Taufik uses one name, as is common in Indonesia.

Seems more often, to me.
I realize that they are a group of islands, some quite close together, but there seems to be a problem with their math when they are counting the tickets for a ferry ride and comparing that number with the capacity of the ferry.
Over and over again, they say: “The ferry was designed to carry 175, and 400 were aboard” or some such set of numbers.
Either build more ferries or quit being surprised when an overloaded boat cannot fight rough seas. The people who design a boat of any kind are engineers!!! They are not miracle workers.
I wouldn’t get on a ferry in Indonesia on a bet!
