WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama said Friday his administration would not compromise its ideals to fight terrorism, and he has told his new intelligence chiefs that he expects the Geneva Conventions to be honored.
"I was clear throughout this campaign and was clear throughout this transition that under my administration the United States does not torture," Obama said, when asked at the news conference whether he would continue a policy of harsh interrogation. "We will abide by the Geneva Conventions. We will uphold our highest ideals."

Brilliant....during war, its always good to tell your enemies there will be no torture.
Does Bam Bam want our troops to wave around rolled up newspapers and say, “Bad jihadi, bad”?
Hey, Obama: Please define torture!
Strongly worded letters...
“obama vows no torture in war against terrorism”
correction: should read, “obama vows no interrogation in war against terrorism”
it really wasn’t torture all along; it was interrogation and information-gathering. (apparently, liberals want to give their terrorist allies the advantage)
IMHO
whew..that is a relief..now the terrorists will likewise abide by the Geneva Convention..right??..right???
It depends what is and who is defining torture.
Does the other side follow the rules? It is hard to win when one side follows the rules and one does not.
now terrorists can add “free meals, lodging, and recreation facilities” to thier list of rewards.
“Brilliant....during war, its always good to tell your enemies there will be no torture.”
Is Bam Bam so naive to think that our enemies will stop lopping off heads in a blink of any eye,or hanging bodies of soldiers and set them ablaze? I think his statement just emboldens them. God save us all!
No, but he is going to torture the hell out of us for the next 4 years....
I remember when the whole torture thing got going, most here on FR believed that torture really didn’t work and wasn’t worth it, now it seems opinions have changed.
What he doesn’t know won’t hurt us.
His goal is to reduce America's power and influence.
Does that include the “Comfy Chair”?
Hopefully we do not see another 9/11 style attack or mushroom cloud over a major city because if we do Obie and his posse will have much to answer to, and it will be the demise of the democratic party if an attack happens.
Absurd to apply the Geneva Conventions to terrorists.
That’s for damn sure.
Good luck with that...
I repeat...
I’m glad I don’t live in a large city...
