Which is kind of sad. Our national conversation on various important issues shouldn't be reduced to a bunch of talking heads screaming at each other. But it has.
We have become the ADHD society. We cannot sit down and reason things out. Instant gratification is the only game in town the vast majority of the populace.
The process of attitude change requires that, first, you get the attention of someone. Later, that someone needs to examine the logic underlying the attitude and consider where that attitude fits in their system of logic. To produce attitude change, the new attitude must not be too different than your current attitude and probably should not cnoflict with one’s behaviors so as not to induce cognitive dissonance.
I read lots of academic research articles but I am one of very few people who do. The articles I read cover only a small set of issues because there is not enough of me to read more than that. AC gets peoples’ attention with her strong statements. That may not change attitudes but it does get people to think about their own attitude about a subject. That is the first step.
