The most important thing to remember when reading this Berkshire Eagle article, "Making the case for Caroline Kennedy," by WAMC Northeast Public Radio CEO, Alan Chartock, is that it was not meant as a satire. However, Chartock's reasons for appointing Caroline Kennedy as senator from New York come off as absolutely hilarious even though he is trying to be completely serious. So enjoy the bellylaughs from inadvertent comedian Chartock (emphasis mine):
...Respectfully, I think David Paterson would be dumb not to appoint Kennedy. Here's my reasoning: She is fabulously wealthy. Some guesstimates have her in the $500 million range. She owns a considerable chunk of Martha's Vineyard beach front, and she is one of the most popular New Yorkers.

... and she can see J.Lo from her house! That’s why she has a lot of respect for her, you know!
Professor is weak.
PING!
I heard quite a while back that the entire Kennedy Klan fortune was in the range of $750 million. Each year there are more Kennedies to suck up the trust fund money and none of them are adding to it. Sure, they are too important to have to pay death taxes on any of it when one of them dies so the government doesn't snag a chuck when any of them dies, but unless they have some really good investors in charge of their trust funds (I really hope they had Madoff), there is no way that Caroline Kennedy has half a billion dollars by herself.
Her father was a superstar (U.S. Pres). Her mother was a superstar. Her brother was a superstar. She is an average person who happened to have inherited a lot of money. A lot. She probably feels inadequate and a failure by her immediate family standards. Here’s her chance. She would have never run for that office. But she can just demand and maybe get her way. And live up to the rest of her family. (note that I did not say that her mother and brother accomplished anything important. Just superstar celebrity status.)
Kennedys:
Can’t Fly
Can’t Drive
Can’t Ski
Can’t Skipper a Boat
Yet they think they know what’s best for us!
Media Research Center Quote of the Year, 2003:
If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 62 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age.
Charles Pierce in a January 5 Boston Globe Magazine article. Kopechne drowned while trapped in Kennedys submerged car off Chappaquiddick Island in July 1969, an accident Kennedy did not report for several hours.
The privileged are crawling out of the woodwork for Kennedy. For those who may not know the Berkshires, it’s one of the summer residences of the Northeast artsy, fartsy, trust fund liberal elites.
Talk about living in an alternative universe
Her wealth goes up a 100 mil with every new article.
“Talk about living in an alternative universe “
Imagine a conservative making an argument for a nomination because the guy is fabulously wealthy with a noble bloodline.
Liberals are shameless.
All respect for the Senate is lost at this point. The House is beyond redemption. Here’s hoping for the Ballot Box Revolution of 2010.
She may have Onassis money too.
Princess Caroline has actual real money, not just trust funds.
She inherited the rather susbstantial fortunes of her father, her mother, and her brother. She also inheretited money when her grandparents died.
Jackie O got a rather large settlement when she divorced Onassis. But it wzs her last “companion”, billionaire diamond merchant and investment banker, Maurice Templesman, who took Jackie’s many many millions, invesred it, and tuned it into billions. Jackie’s heirs were her son and daughter. When JFK, Jr, died, Caroline and her children inherited all his money.
She easily has a billion herself, not counting her real estate holdings. Her husband came to the marriage with no money, and hasn’t made much since.
I have absolutely no problem with people being rich, even very rich. We are not Communists, here at FR, you know. I have a problem with having different rules for different people, and I believe strongly in total transparency in government.
That goes for Caroline Kennedy, the Arkabsas Grifters and their pay for play scam, and everyone else who seeks the public trust.
Her father, brother and mother were not “superstars”.
They simply had the Dem PR machine to make them that way.
Ahh, I had heard the Kennedy figure before Jackie died. I didn't even think of that huge inheritance.

My trust fund comment was because it always seems like Kennedies can avoid the same taxes that they want everyone else to pay. Like when Rose Kennedy, who hadn't left Massachusetts for ten years, was counted as a Florida resident to avoid Massachusetts income and death taxes. Any time a Kennedy tells me I sould pay more taxes I just talk about that tax dodge.
