From what I have seen, when obama runs for re-election in 2012 he will get the votes of 95% of the members that are currently on this forum.

I agree: Gates wont be around long. Political appointments aren’t expected to stay when the new man comes in. Payoff’s to people who helped in the election have to be made.

Friends have friends who need work , it’s a confusing arrangement and people who take political appointments know that. In the end its may not be Chicago payola but in reality there is little difference.

What Congress were you expecting to investigate this? I can guarantee you that our current House and Senate certainly won't.

All of Obama's transition actions must be compared and contrasted to Bush's "new tone" actions as Bush contrasted with the Clinton administration.

Bush's transition was delayed due to Al Gore's contesting of the Florida returns. A willing Bill Clinton refused to release transition funds until late December of 2000. Contrast this with Obama declaring an "Office of the President-Elect" as soon as possible.

Democrats in the Senate obstructed the appointment of Bush's Cabinet and Under-Secretary positions until 9/11/2000.

Obama cannot be allowed to rewrite the book on comparing presidential transitions and presidential history-by-comparison. He has declared too much of his past background as off-limits to be allowed to demand no scrutiny with past presidents.

Doesn’t matter, all politicians (especially presidential candidates) do it, knowing they have years to mollify the masses before re-election is upon them again. ;-)
