But the caldera has a history of lots of small eruptions leading up to and following a large blast, and the cycle lasts quite a long time.

Yellowstone erupts about every 600,000 years. It’s about 620,000 years since the last one. Who knows. Might erupt in 100,000 or maybe tommorow.
