New Militant Group in Ain el-Hilweh Reportedly Plans to Target Egyptian Embassy
NAHARNET.com ^ | February 1, 2009 | n/a
Posted on February 2, 2009 6:07:22 PM PST by Cindy

A new Palestinian militant group whose members have been trained to carry out rocket-launching and bombing operations was reportedly formed in the southern refugee camp of Ain el-Hilweh to carry out among others an attack on the Egyptian embassy.

Al-Balad daily reported on Sunday that a Palestinian named Jamal Hamad formed the organization, which he named “Jihad movement for the victory of Gaza” with the assistance of Ghandi Sahmarani, a Lebanese wanted from the authorities on several terrorist charges.

The newspaper said several militants from Jund al-Sham and Osbat al-Ansar have joined the new group.

The militants have received training in camps in the Central and Western Bekaa Valley from “foreign experts” brought in under the cover of upgrading fighting capabilities against Israel, according to al-Balad.

Senior Iranian Official: The Elimination of Israel – a Sacred Aspiration

Hossein Shariatmadari, editor of the Iranian daily Kayhan, who is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, called to disobey the ban on supplying advanced weapons and ammunition to the Palestinians and the resistance movements.

He described the elimination of Israel as a “sacred aspiration” that would purge the world of the sources of corruption.

In a rally in honor of Samir Quntar, Mustafa Dirani and Sheikh ‘Abd Al-Karim ‘Obeid (Lebanese terrorists who were released by Israel), Shariatmadari said that the rivers and oceans in which the Zionists will drown are already prepared.

The current war, he stated, is between the camp that supports Islam and the Islamic Revolution and the camp of the infidels and enemies “who have come together to put out the flame of the revolution.”

He added that the Islamic Revolution had turned the national Israeli-Arab conflict into a conflict between Islam and Zionism, and the conflict between the Shi’a and the Sunna into one between “compromise and resistance.”

Al Qaeda Leader Ridicules Obama

Al Qaeda’s number two man, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has spoken again, this time in a video released today in which he mocks President Obama and urges Muslims to engage in jihad. His speech is a sign, experts say, that al Qaeda is nervous about Obama’s popularity in the Arab world....

Al Qaeda No. 2 releases second message of 2009

Al Qaeda’s second-in-command, Ayman al-Zawahiri, released a new audio message Tuesday, condemning Israel and calling for renewed attacks.

The message shows a grouping of photographs that include an old photo of al-Zawahiri, three dead children and a collage of world leaders: French President Nicolas Sarkozy, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

Speaking critically of the recent conflict in Gaza, al-Zawahiri blamed “western collaboration” in supporting Israel and blamed Israel’s allies for not distinguishing “the killer from the victim.”

He also criticized U.S. President Obama for not mentioning Gaza during his inaugural address.....

Qaeda’s Zawahiri mocks Obama over Gaza

Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri mocked US President Barack Obama for his “deep concern” for Gaza and urged Muslims to rise up against enemy aggression, in an audiotape released on jihadist forums Tuesday.

A speech entitled “Sacrifices of Gaza and Plots” was contained in a video produced by As-Sahab, Al-Qaeda’s media arm, and made available by SITE Intelligence Group.

Against the backdrop of a still image of Zawahiri, Arab leaders and dead Palestinian children, Zawahiri stressed that the “Crusader-Zionist” campaign of Western and Arab states and Israel will not be broken or deterred unless it suffers human and material losses.

He called for Muslims to overthrow Arab regimes and said demonstrations, which he had previously recommended, were “insufficient” to face the tanks and planes of the enemy.....

Defense Minister Ehud Barak, who was addressing the annual Herzliya Conference at the time of the attack, informed the assembled audience that the Air Force “is currently operating in the Gaza Strip.”

Earlier Palestinian residents of Rafah said they had received telephone calls from the IDF warning them of an imminent attack in the area.”

“Indicting Israel for Self-Defense”
By P. David Hornik
FrontPageMagazine.com | Wednesday, February 04, 2009

SNIPPET: “The ceasefire announced by Hamas on January 18, never a sterling example of the genre, further deteriorated on Sunday as over 15 rockets and mortar shells were fired at Israel from Gaza. That night, when Israeli planes struck back at Hamas targets, many Palestinians reported that Israel had telephoned them warnings to evacuate. There were no casualties in the strike.
During Operation Cast Lead, Israel reduced Palestinian casualties with such measures as disseminating warnings in leaflets or SMS messages and dropping small, harmless bombs on rooftops before attacks. It prompted former British colonel Richard Kemp to say that “I don’t think there has ever been a time in the history of warfare when any army has made more efforts to reduce civilian casualties and deaths of innocent people than the IDF is doing today in Gaza.”

Nevertheless, it was reported on Monday that a prosecutor at the International Criminal Court in The Hague had announced plans to investigate claims by Palestinian groups that Israel had committed war crimes in Gaza by using phosphorus shells in populated areas. In 2004 the ICC condemned Israel for building its security fence—believed by some security officials to have saved hundreds of lives—after waves of terror from the West Bank.

And the news about the ICC came hard on the heels of Thursday’s announcement that a Spanish court, after granting a petition by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, was planning to try seven Israeli security officials for “crimes against humanity” in the 2002 assassination of Hamas kingpin Salah Shehadeh. Fourteen civilians were also killed in the strike. Shehadeh had masterminded the killings of hundreds of Israelis and was preparing a mega-attack at the time. The seven Israeli officials include a former defense minister and two former chiefs of staff.”

SNIPPET: “On December 28, 2008, Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, launched an unprecedented attack on the Arab regimes, particularly that of Egypt, accusing them of collaborating with Israel. Speaking on Hizbullah’s Al-Manar TV, Nasrallah called for demonstrations to be held throughout the Arab world to pressure the Arab regimes to halt the Israeli offensive, and to compel Egypt to open the Rafah crossing. He also called on the Egyptian masses to storm the Rafah crossing and open it by force, saying that anyone killed in these actions will be a martyr for Jerusalem and for Islam.

Following are excerpts from an English translation of Nasrallah’s statements, posted on the Hizbullah website. [1] “

Mash’al In Iran: ‘Our Battle Is Your Battle’; ‘Together We Will Liberate Jerusalem’; Iran Will Help Rebuild Gaza; French Leaders ‘Collaborators’ In Zionists’ Gaza Massacres

In a speech at the Iranian Majlis, Hamas leader Khaled Mash’al said that Hamas will not stop smuggling weapons, because doing so would be against the armed struggle.

He told Iranian MPs: “Our battle is your battle... Your support for the resistance in Palestine is support for yourselves.

He called on Europe to adjust its policy vis-à-vis Hamas, and to influence the U.S. to do likewise.

He said that Hamas aspires to liberate Jerusalem and all Palestine, and to realize the right of return.

Majlis speaker Ali Larijani said that Hamas was bringing honor to Islam with its struggle against Zionism.

In another speech, yesterday at a ceremony at Tehran University to honor the Hamas delegation currently visiting Iran, Mash’al declared, “Together we will liberate Jerusalem.”

He added that he had arrived at an understanding with Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on Iranian involvement in rebuilding the Gaza Strip.

Global Gathering of the Ahl Al-Bayt Association secretary-general Abbas Ali Akhtari declared at the ceremony that the elimination of Israel was absolute and inevitable.

Also at the ceremony, Muhammad Nasr Al-Atrash, the head of the Muslim Party in France, declared that his party would not permit French President Nicolas Sarkozy and French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, who are “collaborators in the Zionists’ massacre in Gaza,” to turn France into a Zionist state.

Large Islamic Website Still Carries Material Advocating Destruction of
Israel
Forum claims dedication to “dialogue and mutual exchange of sometimes
drastically different and even diametrically opposed ideas.”

Operators of a British-based Islamic website are speaking out against a
charge in a British tabloid that some of its users are extremists targeting
leading British Jews.

The newspaper story said the alleged “targeting” is in retaliation for
Israel’s invasion of Gaza.

However, the site continues to carry material advocating the destruction of
Israel.

A 2006 posting reads in part (www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=76374),
“The Followers of Ahl Us-Sunnah wal Jamma call upon all Muslim individuals,
groups and organizations to show their support verbally, physically and
financially to the Mujahideen who are struggling against the fascist entity
called Israel so that it can be destroyed once and for all thereby
liberating the land of Palestine, the Golan Heights and the Gaza Strip which
belong to the Muslims and allowing the Muslims to implement Islamic law.”

The rhetoric continues, “The obligation to engage in Jihad (holy war) is
Fardun Ayn (an individual duty) today upon every responsible Muslim,
according to their capability, wherever they are. Let us therefore respond
to the call of Allah ... and his Messenger Muhammad ... and let the enemies
of Islam and the Muslims go to hell.”

However, following a complaint, Britain’s Press Complaints Commission (PCC)
is looking into the Jan. 7 front-page story in the Sun newspaper headlined
“Terrorists Target Sugar,” with quotes by anti-terror researcher Glen
Jenvey.

Sajid, the person who apparently initiated the complaint, appears to be site
administrator for Ummah.com
(http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:x-TomC1fw98J:www.www.ummah.net/forum/showthread.php%3Fp%3D2396511+Sajid+admin+ummah.com&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=15&gl=uk )

The story claimed online Muslim forum Ummah.com was allegedly being used by
radical Islamics to target The Apprentice star Sir Alan Sugar, singer Amy
Winehouse, producer Mark Ronson, the Labor Party’s Lord Levy and others.

The Sun story quoted a contributor on the forum called “Abuislam,” asking
“Have we got a list of top Jews we can target? Can someone post names and
addresses?”

Ummah forum administrators posted a vocal defense of their site
(www.ummah.com/forum/showthread.php?t=197121 ), headlined “Ummah forum detest today’s misleading article in ‘The Sun,’” and alleged that Abuislam is really Jenvey, claiming confirmation from his IP and email addresses.

In an e-mailed statement, Jenvey denied being Abu Islam, adding that some
inflammatory posts formerly on the site have now been either removed or
manipulated to the forum administrators’ advantage.

He said, “Over the years I have monitored both www.ummah.net and
www.ummah.com and their chat rooms. I know they hate me enough to try and discredit me.”

The Ummah writer (s) continued, “Ummah Forums is based on the premise that through dialogue and mutual exchange of sometimes drastically different and even diametrically opposed ideas, people from all parts of the world can come to understand each other and if unable to become friends, they can at least be friendly by recognizing their shared humanity.”

However, not mentioned is Ummah’s former hosting of jailed extremist Abu
Hamza’s Supporters of Shariah website (SOS),
http://web.archive.org/web/20000831081335/www.ummah.net/sos/aj1/ajindex.html .

The web archive provides a record of SOS being hosted by Ummah.net, which
is the same as ummah.com from 1999 to 2003 at
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://ummah.net/sos

Abu Hamza was jailed in 2006 for seven years after being found guilty of
inciting murder and race hate
(http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4690224.stm ).

In addition, encouragements to jihad (Islamic holy war) currently appear on
the Ummah site
(http://209.85.229.132/search?q=cache:7C1zYFU0ogMJ:www.ummah.net/forum/showthread.php%3Ft%3D198569+Jihad+is+our+way+ummah&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2 ).

Quoting from another site, one person wrote, “Jihad becomes (an
individual’s duty) when a person is in the battlefield, if the enemy invades
a Muslim country, if the imam appoints a person or urges him to fight, or if
his particular skills are needed because he has good knowledge of military
matters or weapons and so is needed by the mujaahideen, and there is no one
else with this knowledge or these skills. And Allah knows best.”

Someone else wrote, “I personally believe it is (our duty). Some ... say
otherwise.”

And a portion of the Muslim Brotherhood Movement’s Frequently Asked
Questions carried on the site (www.ummah.net/ikhwan/questions.html)
<(http://www.ummah.net/ikhwan/questions.html)> reads in part, “Are you
saying that if a government overthrow brings an ‘Islamic’ state in Egypt,
Bosnian and Iraqi problems will be solved right away ?”

The answer was, “No, but it will put us on the way to solving these
problems! (The Islamic religious militia) believe that the reason for our
misery today is that we do not obey Allah and we do not follow his laws and
his orders. An Islamic state will ... put us on the right path.”

The PCC is looking into whether or not Abuislam is Jenvey. It has also
contacted the Sun and is awaiting the paper’s response.

Jenvey and former colleague Johnathan Galt years ago listed Ummah as a
problem site (www.geocities.com/johnathanrgalt/ummahnews_com.html).
According to Galt, at that time, the site’s apparent owner was Osman
Muhammad and its administrative contact was an S.H. Ahmed, both listing the
same London address.

Hizbullah Deputy Leader: We’re Proud Of Our Ties To Iran

At a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, held at the Iranian Consulate in Lebanon, Hizbullah deputy leader Na’im Qassem said that the organization had “a relationship to be proud of” with Iran, while other elements in Lebanon were tied to “extortion and submission to the U.S. and Israel.”
