Iran is using its warm relations with Venezuela to dodge UN sanctions and use Venezuelan aircraft to ship missile parts to Syria, an Italian newspaper reported Sunday.
Citing US and other Western intelligence agencies, La Stampa said Iran is using aircraft from Venezuelan airline Conviasa to transport computers and engine components to Syria for use in missiles.

Maybe the UN will get lucky and they’ll detour near Somalia.

The article “begs” the question - if as indicated Iranian missiles are being transported to Syria via Venezuelan commercial airlines - what - pray tell - precludes Chavez from also having his own personal set of Iranian missiles

The article begs the question - if as indicated Iranian missiles are being transported to Syria via Venezuelan commercial airlines - what - pray tell - precludes Chavez from also having his own personal set of Iranian missiles In the near future, a small, transportable dirty bomb will be a more dangerous possibility.

Nothing, and why aren’t the Israelis blowing these planes out of the skies?

Very good question. I wonder what antimissile defenses we will have on January 20, 2009?

"...and why arent the Israelis blowing these planes out of the skies?" Why do the Israelis have to do our job for us? With our 'stealth' aircraft that most other countries in the world cannot see on radar, why can't we do it (and then deny all knowledge)?
Oh, sure, there would be self-righteous claims that we did it but with no proof, it would be just like all the claims that the United States has captured Alien Spacecraft. Easy to claim but hard to prove...

But why is that our job, the missiles are (ostensibly) targeted at Israel, no?

"But why is that our job...?" I remember reading once that during the height of the Roman Empire, it was possible for a Roman Citizen to walk un-molested from one end of the Empire to the other.
I suspect that that was an exageration but the claim does illustrate the fear with which the Legions of the Roman Empire were contemplated. All of the talk we've encountered in recent months about how the United States has "lost respect and admiration" of the rest of the world?
I don't care if the rest of the world respects and admires the United States as long as they have a good, healthy dose of fear about what the United States will do them if they do anything to us! That's the root of the problem we've experienced with the ruthless Islamic Jihadists for the last 30 years; they do not like us or respect us and they sure as 'heck' don't fear us.
