Yamulke, yarmulke, sometimes called a kipa. A headcovering which would identify him as Jewish, the reporter simply can't spell.

I've always seen it as "yarmulke".

Anyway, how do they know he was attacked simply because he's Jewish? They didn't say anything.

They don't, it's an assumption. It could just as easily be racial, or simply random.
