Gingrich: RNC Ad is 'Destructive Distraction'
Atlantic Magazine ^ | 16 Dec 2008 02:07 pm | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 12/16/2008 4:15:40 PM PST by lewisglad

Dear Chairman Duncan,

I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.

The recent web advertisement, "Questions Remain," is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.

In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.

From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.

Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.

This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the "better solutions" party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.

This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation's troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.

The RNC should pull the ad down immediately.

Sincerely,

Newt Gingrich

Chairman, American Solutions

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives

You should change your screen name to Asleep-n-Clueless.

You and Newt want to keep reliving 2008.

So was Doolittle's Raid on Tokyo. Did wonders for the country, though.

"But I do know establishment Republicans hate conservatives."

Let me assure you the feeling is mutual.

I wouldn’t be worrying about vortexes.

Conservatism was never on the ballot the last 2 elections.

Unfortunately, Sarah was window dressing that made the ignominy of the Maverick at the top of the ticket all the more intolerable to many. It served a couple purposes, it teased the base, it also attempted to sully conservatives by allowing pot shots from all sides to be fired off at her and those who have seen the New Majority and Moderates piss away prosperity and line their own campaign coffers and have attempted to call their own party members for doing a two step across the aisle when it came to any number of issues.

2010 and 2012 should be a real hoot.. You want unity? Good luck. Kick the moderates to the curb and get back to basics, conservative basics. Folks are gonna need a lot of it to survive the next few years or be overwhelmed by the Red tide of socialism, with a GoP stamp alongside the dems on the bottom of the bottle.

“Maybe we should reconsider whether it is actually improving the country or just making us feel superior.”

Bingo.

It is long past time for decent people to realize that, when dealing with scumbags, civility is just a self-imposed handicap.

To lose is bad; to lose with unfired ammunition in your magazines is just shameful.

Newt must be on some medication. He has lost it. The guy makes Sybil seem grounded and on message.

hey gingrich.. 2006 and 2008 defeats had nothing to do with negative ads..

Actually, they did. The Democrats offered absolutely nothing but "Bush Sucks" and "Republicans Suck" in both of those elections and it worked wonderfully for them.

Another of Newt’s recent “solutions”. He is batting about .200, which is 600 points less than his ego scores on the wusometer scale.

Hey Newt, You haven’t figured it out yet have you? Many of us don’t give a cra* anymore. There is not much left to lose. We do not care about the fraud of the coming POTUS, because we know you don’t.

You are all assuring our demise. So shut up.

I think Gingrich is right.

He would be right if this were a country where all citizens pulled together to beat this financial crisis and rise above any challenges but, in the real world, that's no longer what this country is.

The sad truth is that the Democrats are plotting and scheming 24/7 how to take more of our money and freedom and the only thing that this "play nice" crap will do is to expedite their success in reaching those goals.

This is the case because, and this is important, they NEVER take the high road, they NEVER pull together for the sake of the country, and they NEVER put the people first.

So Newt's not right because his advice is to continue to bring a knife to a gunfight.

I remember after 9/11 everyone compared George W Bush to Ken Lay and Enron.

"This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the "better solutions" party,"

To me, the Republican Party is already the "better solutions" party. But all Obama had to do was chant "hope and change" and millions of effing MORONS voted for him. It doesn't matter what Newt wants the Republican Party to become because millions of effing MORONS don't have the attention span to understand better solutions anyway.

Newt, don’t you have to sit on a couch with Nancy Pelosior something?

Fellow Freepers, here’s the God’s honest truth, according to yours truly:

Maybe we can get rid of the “better solutions” bullcrap and go back to ‘gov’t isn’t in the solutions business’, as the constitution is written.

Let’s see- since the election many of the Einsteins around here want to overturn the results of an election in which the president elect won a sizable majority, with runors of ineligibility without one scrap of proof and continue to point to an investigation that at every turn seems to indicate that he did nothing wrong.

Yeah butt crack, you’re on the road to turning things around in thi country.

Or maybe we can go back to the Reagan formula; great ideas born in the American tradition, competent execution and optimistic leadership.

Second thought- you’re right- lets go with caddy commericals and character slurs.

I think Newt is right also. Newt used to be my congressman. He is a conservative. With the economy in the tank, people losing their jobs and soon after a really bitter election. This is not the time to run such an ad. No one cares! Especially since it’s on tape that that Blao said ‘MF obama will only give us his appreciation.’ Fitzgerald has said repeatedly that no one in the Obama camp is a target.
