This morning I called Senator Arlen "Magic Bullet" Specter's office. Not only is he on the Senate Judiciary Committee, responsible for Eric Holder confirmation hearings, he has been making noises about wanting to know more about the Marc Rich pardon.

His office transferred me to his representative at the Senate Judiciary Committee. After hearing the info, the woman wanted me to forward her the information.

Okay, Sen. Specter, you are now in possession of important information that needs to be part of the confirmation hearings. What are you going to do about it?

LISTEN TO THE AUDIO FROM CONFIDENTIAL WITNESS (it will start in a few seconds)

It will be interesting to see if Specter pursues anything along these lines...

Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Wednesday that former President Bill Clinton’s pardon of Marc Rich will be an issue in a potential confirmation hearing for Eric Holder to become attorney general .

“We’re going to take a very, very close look at his record,” Specter said in an interview on MSNBC.

Specter said that he will examine Holder’s role in the final days of the Clinton administration “with focus on the Marc Rich pardon, where there had been very, very large contributions.”

“Rich was a fugitive,” he said. “They did not follow regular order. And we’ll want to know, in some detail, as to what Mr. Holder had to do with that.”

Specter said that he is unlikely to hold up Holder’s nomination over the issue, but insisted that “it is an issue that has to be inquired into.”

The Republican said he intends to move quickly on all the confirmation hearings, promising to “move into the substance of the matter, ask the important questions, look for any documents that might be relevant. And as fast as we can move through, I’m prepared to decide it one way or another. I wouldn’t hold it up.”

Specter praised President-elect Barack Obama’s reported pick of former Sen. Tom Daschle (D-S.D.) as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, but said the former senator will also be subject to tough scrutiny.

“I think it’s a very good nomination. I know former Senator Daschle very well,” he said. “I don’t think there are any skeletons in Tom Daschle’s closet. But I want to open the closet door to see.”

The Marc Rich episode is pretty documented and the public still remembers everything....its only been eight years. I think Specter could turn some dull meetings into a fascinating review of history and how “one hand washes the other”.

Way to go, Detective Gumshoe.

Doug, taking nothing away from the issues raised here, and Senator Specter’s history of goofy pronouncements,I think there is good support for the so called “magic bullet” theory and I’ve seen presentations supporting the notion that one bullet made the wounds in question, based on computer simulations showing the bodies’ positions and taking standard anatomy into account.

I know referring to the “magic bullet” is a popular way to make fun of Specter, but very likely not an accurate one.

Okay. It is, however, good mocking material. So is Scottish law.

Oh. Doug......good luck, with Snarlin Arlen NEVER seems to get to the truth of anything.

It's been only eight years. . .

A political lifetime here, for 'todays' voters.

Specter is a moron. When given a choice of Yea, Nay or Present during the Clinton Impeachment Trial he voted “with Scottish Law.” He has not proven he has gotten much better. I really hoped he lost his last primary but I was denied that pleasure.

(Probably unnecessary) word of advice. Never give Specter an original copy of anything. (Remember what happened to Jayna's materials -- after "Magic Bullet Arlen" took them and offered stirring promises of action?)

That's right -- nothing but silence...

I have not given him the name of the witness yet. Let’s see if we can get people to deluge his office with requests to call Denise Rich.

The Holder-pick was bound to raise eyebrows. You have to wonder if Obama just thinks he can bull his way through the inevitable Marc Rich pardon controversy, or if he is just flat-out stupid.

Don’t forget, Specter , “Yellowcake” Joe Wilson and “Aluminum Tube” Valerie Plame apparently know each other at least well enough to dine together.
