CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.
That's one of Obama's first priorities today.
He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.
Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.
There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.
It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.
Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

And now that I think about it, here's the deal. If he did meet with Blago then it's almost for sure that Blago tried to shake him down. So why didn't Obama report this obvious criminal shakedown? Hmmmm?? Isn't that a crime in itself?

Everybody lies about governors making appointments to fill vacated US Senate seats? In fact, it’s even honorable to lie in such situations. To protect the family and such.

Actually vidbizz and cycle of discernment should get the bulk of the credit for finding this. I thought it was important enough to place in Breaking for the most exposure.
I expect Obama will clarify his disclaimer yesterday and say what he meant was that he didn’t have any knowledge that the Blago indictment was coming. His disclaimer didn’t pertain to any meetings or conversations they had, he’ll say.
Perhaps his first act as "President-elect."

Do we have a follow-up article/video to indicate that the meeting actually took place? Meetings are scheduled and canceled all the time, so we really need to know if this one did take place.

Obama clearly said he didn’t speak to the Governor. When that statement contradicted what Axelrod said, they came out and said Axelrod misspoke. It’s going to be hard for him to wiggle out of this one.
