Look, it's one thing to obfuscate, all politicians do it to one extent or another, but this kind of thing approaches pathological.

Why wouldn't he just say “Of course I spoke to him about selection of my replacement. It's an extremely important position and if I can have input in the selection process, I'll certainly take it. But at no time did I have any suspicion that the position was open to the highest bidder, and if that accusation is true, I applaud the U.S. Attorney for taking action as swiftly as he did.”

Good point, Owl. Run through the filter of what honest people say and how they say it, Obama's response is down right damning. The MSM's failure to acknowledge the obvious--at a level recognizable by any minimally competent parent, teacher, or small claims court judge--is just more evidence of the death of journalism. There are a few glimmers though. Surprisingly, Jake Tapper has managed some skeptical notes.
