Tribune Co. is preparing for a possible bankruptcy-protection filing as soon as this week, according to people familiar with the matter, opening a new front of trouble for the newspaper industry.
As Tribune continues discussions with its lenders to rework its debt load, the newspaper-and-television concern in recent days ...

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.......
Isn’t bankruptcy, merely the government redistributing wealth? You know ... socialism?
The sell off of assets and the tax write-off.
you mean the Chicago mob machine can get a man elected President but can’t save it’s pals at the Tribune?

awesome point..the more leftist newpapers that go out of business, the better! if any survive, they will have to cater to market forces...that means honest reporting
If we have any Conservative Billionaires (is there such a thing?) then it is time for them to step up to the plate and help buy back America. He/she can start by purchasing the LA Times and turning it into an actual newspaper rather than simply another arm of the Democrap Party.
Mwahahahahahahaha!
Cancelled our subscription (an action precipitated by my wife, a former lib, no less) two weeks ago - didn’t expect the consequences this quickly, but hey, couldn’t be more pleased to see that biased rag bite the big one this soon.
Wow, I guess I just found out how naive I am. If one company owns that many news assets, I now understand why they all say the same thing on their broadcasts. Unreal to have that much media power wrapped up in one company. No wonder there is no investigative reporting anymore.

Lots of writers in those papers I’d like to see lose their homes by not being able to pay their mortgages.
I would hope you don't need a ‘certificate’ from the Gov’t ‘authorizing’ being a ‘news’ source and having Constitutional protections.
What’s the point? Is there something in the bankruptcy code that forces newspapers to fire the liberal reporters?
OH ABB Sunday night good news
If the Tribune expects a bailout from the government, the chairman should resign. /rimshot
The Chicago Tribune was the one proudly conservative newspaper we subscribed to wherever we lived. It gradually drifted leftward until it was no better than national locals so we dropped it. Interesting that so many roads lead to Chicago these days. The Chicago Tribune has represented quite well the policies and thinking of the leftist democrat machine that has elected citizen Obama to the presidency of the US. It should have died before it deteriorated into a propaganda sheet for the left in general as well as the local democrat party. Their guy is in now so they have become superfluous. Even the left shrinks from sending good money after bad. Good riddance.
Just wait.
Newspaper bailout. (for all the papers that endorsed Obama)
