neverdem, I have always wondered about this phenomenon. My Mother, many years ago, had surgery to repair a hip fracture. After the surgery, her mental faculties just never were the same. We had to move her to a long term care facility and she lived only months after the surgery. She didn't take any of these drugs, but she did take some over-the-counter vitamin preparations. Would any of these have accounted for her adverse mental reaction?

I'm sorry about the loss of your mother. Hip fractures have lousy mortality stats. 20 - 25 percent are dead within the next year. I was surprised to see that vitamins were included in the excerpt. I didn't check the reference.
