Everyone knows the stereotype of the left-wing academic liberal, who drinks a daily latte at Starbucks and drives a Volvo wagon. Since that first appeared, the car is no longer a Volvo, but more than likely a Toyota, a Hyundai, a Nissan or even a BMW, a Mercedes or a Volkswagonanything but an American car.
In fact, I cant name anyone I know who drives an American car except me. The argument is simple: if you want a good car, buy Japanese.
The Japanese automakers, to put it simply, dont have to deal with the unions. And here is where I get to the blatant hypocrisy....

Good read.
I have a Saturn SC Coupe (35mpg), Saturn Vue (wife’s buggy), Jeep Cherokee (4x4 winter blaster), and 67 Camaro convertible (classic summer fun). All made in USofA by union labor.

Real liberals drive Trabants.
As proof that Communists make better cars.

I grew up as a fanatical Mopar man, but I now drove a Matrix, basically because no U.S. automaker saw fit to offer me a small AWD car. For a while I had Glock and NRA decals on it, which no doubt caused some confusion among the lemmings.

BMW R1200R. First foreign-made vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’m still not a liberal, though.

Last night Hannity was raging on about how the Big 3 should get the bailout because the government is partly responsible for their problems because of CAFE, safety regulations, etc. He conveniently omitted that every car manufacturer that sells its products in this country is subject to the exact same regulations.
Your analysis is poor.
CAFE is an acronym for Corporate, Average, Fuel, Economy . What that means is that the Auto Companies have to meet an AVERAGE fuel standard. This applies to all vehicles a manufacturer sells. When you factor in that a company like Honda doesn't really build any big cars, SUV's (big ones), or Trucks it is much easier for them to meet the CAFE standards. GM and Ford and Chrysler cannot make money on their small cars. They lose money on every one they sell because of their labor and legacy costs. This is why they really pushed larger cars, SUV's and Trucks. They CAN make money on these vehicles.
If you look at an "apples to apples" comparison the US Auto Manufacturers get comproable gas mileage. I know this because I'm in the car market today and I have looked at many types of cars in all classes and the gas mileage is the same between the same classes of cars with very similar specifications.

I had to chuckle at this, knowing how much flak I get for driving a Miata. :)

Bad spelling, didn’t check. “comproable” should have been comparable.

It wasn’t my “analysis”, it was Hannity’s. You missed the point, anyway, which is that Hannity’s proposition that the Big 3 deserve the bailout because part of their problem is due to government-imposed regulations and standards is fallacious. And if the Big 3 lose money on every small car they sell, whose fault is that?

I'm presently driving a Hyundai Sonata which was assembled in Alabama by Americans.
Not a Leftwingtard bone in my body.
In fact, I don't know a single professor who drives a Sonata, and if they did, we've visited so many universities so many times the last 10 years I would have seen one if that were the case.
In fact, if you see a Sonata parked somewhere you are likely looking at something owned by a retired federal government employee, a young black American military officer or NCO, or a Public Health Service case worker on her way home.
The "neat people" drive Chebbies or something ~

Lucky you. We had a ‘00 Toyota Sienna van. Even with regular 3,000 mile oil changes, that clunker’s engine could produce more sludge than the local sewage plant. It blew out great clouds of blue smoke all the time. I was sure glad when we were able to unload it.
