Now that was real dumb. That guy will never work at another nuke plant ever again.

All nukes are unbelievably strict about drugs and alcohol. You have to pass a pretty thorough drug test upon initial entry and there are frequent random tests while you are there. There are guards everywhere! I’ve worked at Oconee (and many other nukes).

Can’t believe the guy was so stupid as to actually bring it inside the fence!

No kidding. There are very few jobs in high-level construction/maintenance like this you can still do and be a druggie. There is no tolerance for safety hazards, and druggies are human safety hazards. It’s kind of nice not having to work with druggie scum.

“banned” - “Is that the new word for you no longer have a job here stupid”

Indeed it is. Duke Energy’s rules for contractors is that if you get caught with drugs or alcohol in your system (and the levels are tight) you are banned from working anywhere in their system for five years. Every nuke has on their applications a question asking if you have ever been banned from working in a nuke.

The idiot brought it inside the fence. That is a super no-no.

“There are very few jobs in high-level construction/maintenance like this you can still do and be a druggie.”

If they ever do build the number of nukes that there is talk of building, the crunch will be on finding enough tradesmen that can pass a urine test. No joke.

Fossil plants have pretty much the same rules as well.

This is news?? We random tested for drugs, including pot, at every mine and smelter I worked at. Something about now wanting employees to die in OTJ accidents. Narrow-minded, huh?

That will be a task, for sure. I hope I see the day!!

Kids have no desire to get into skilled traes, or hard sciences like engineering. Everyone wants to be a rock star or sell stocks and bonds.

Agreed, over the past couple of years they have tighten up a lot also, but they don’t have the same information network that the nukes have. You can pretty much get canned (as a contractor) from a fossil plant and go on to another and no one would be the wiser (or at least that is my impression).

Probably true, I don't know for sure. But anyone who tests positive (drugs or alcohol) in a nuke plant will never work in another nuke plant again.

The regs and reporting are tough.

I’m against the drug war, but don’t bring it to work.
