That's all good in theory, SGT, but reality is a whole different story. People start getting complacent, stop carrying their concealed weapons, can't find the time to train, discover that ammo is expensive, etc.

We have to take responsibility for ourselves, no doubt, but let's not kid ourselves into believing that we'll get some mass organized group ready to face down the terrorists.
