Milk (movie review - BARF ALERT)
Daily Dish column - The Atlantic ^ | 27 November 2008 | Andrew Sullivan

Posted on 12/01/2008 10:45:02 PM PST by DestinyEagle

(Excerpted)

And so this movie was really about two gay men and the journey between them. The two gay men are Harvey Milk and Dan White. The two gay men are Barney Frank and Ted Haggard. The two gay men are Tony Kushner and Larry Craig. The two gay men are Frank Kameny and Roy Cohn. And as the years have passed by and HIV churned the gay world as powerfully as plagues and wars often do, these polarities were complemented by any number of variations in between.

(...)

This is not easy for anyone, let alone for homosexuals. For many across the centuries, it has been too much. Dan White, for one, could not reconcile the tensions. He either had to be totally normal or completely other. And the over-powering self-hatred this tension created drove him to murderous rage at the freedom and integration he couldn't find for himself. And parts of the gay community couldn't reconcile these tensions either (though without stooping to White's violence) and resorted to pure rage and escapist pathologies as a way to cope. Our job now is to see the humanness of both stories and to build and integrate through them to something better and stronger and calmer. It is to leave neither White nor Milk behind.

(...)

He was a man of the streets and yet he also had to become a symbol of establishment power. The scene when he both stokes a rally-cum-riot and then calms it down captured the tension perfectly. He was a man of politics, but he was also only a politician in order to have the chance to be a human.

(...)

Which is why, in so many ways, the gay movement, at its very best, is something holy.

Sullivan's claims are so over the top, they reach a level of almost insane dementia. He calls himself both a Conservative and a Catholic, yet flagrantly violates the basic precepts of both. Then he makes the outrageous claim that Dan White was homosexual. Is there any clearer evidence that he is 100% certifiable?

Is it really necessary to post Andrew Sullivan crap? He is as discredited as any journalist in the entire blogosphere. No one reads the Atlantic anyhow, unless it is to mock Sullivan.

Mega-Chunk-Spewing Barf Alert!

Keep telling yourself that Andrew, but I don't think you'll convince God of it.

“Is it really necessary to post Andrew Sullivan crap?”

I stopped reading him a long time ago but a friend sent me the link and said I wouldn’t believe how nuts he had become. I have no doubt that he will scrub this stuff from his site soon enough since the claims are so absurd. To me, it is just another testament to how sick-minded those are who dedicate themselves to that alternative lifestyle.

I do not know if Dan White was gay but, I do know that Dan White was a Murderous Thug.

Oh, yes, a Suicidal Murderous Thug.

I hope, in the end, he got what he deserved.

The outside world sometimes puts us in a box of cultural otherness

No, the gay community does this to itself, and yet whines that "we're not accepted" by the straight world.

They want the impossible, which is to be outside the norm and be considered "special" yet be treated as the norm WHEN IT SUITS THEM.

Gays are often lonely and feel like "others" when closeted; when they come out, they then enjoy the company of other "others" and live in a society of their own.

Now, though, they don't want to just be part of the larger society (they always could do that, as long as they did what straight people do, which is keep your damned private lives private), they now want that larger society to accept and incorporate that "other" society within the larger society, somehow not losing the benefits of being "other" OR of being part of the larger society.

This is silly, childish, and corrupting of what works in the larger society. The gays don't care, though--they just want what they want, and that's it. No analysis, no reality, just gimmegimmegimme.

BTW, I wouldn't pay five cents to see a movie starring Robin Williams, so I imagine this thing will just be the BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN of 2009--people yap about it and see it to have seen it, but no one but gays gives a damn about it.

If anyone thinks I’d go see a film about a homosexual councilman, they’re nuts.

I foresee a gazillion oscar nominations for this film. Because it is about a gay man and because California citizens voted against the gay agenda.

This movie is total crap. It makes it look like White killed milk because he was gay.
He killed Aliotto and Milk because they were blocking him getting his Fire Department job back after he was off the Board of Supervisors. Milk was a friend of White.
This is from Diane Feinstein. She found Aliotto dead and saw White running down the hall from shooting Milk to shooting Aliotto. She somehow has White's diary. She doesn't like the movie.
She stated this on local TV last week.

My understanding is that Dan White put forth the argument that eating lots of twinkies and junk food was primarily a SYMPTOM of his emotional distress, not the CAUSE of it. History tends to get things a bit mixed up.

Milk treated White in an uncivilized manner when Milk laughed in White's face. White returned the favor with a bullet in Milk's face.

Once you step outside the bounds of civilized behavior you are counting on your victim to remain civilized. It does not always work out that way.

Andrew, my main problem with Sean Penn playing Harvey Milk, as it is with Tom Cruise playing Claus von Stauffenberg in “Valkyrie”, is that the whole point of either movie is that you’re supposed to be sad when the lead dies.

unless Penn is going to reprise his role as Jeff Spicoli in this movie I have no interesting is seeing it. And in the words of Mr. Spcioli in that classic line from “Fast Times at Ridgemont High”: “Those dudes are fags”

This movie will allow us to determine the number of gays in this country simply by looking at the number of tickets sold.
