You could be forgiven for thinking that Chicago is the new Washington, that the president-elect is already running the country from there and that the West Wing has just become the Mid-West wing.
Barack Obama is gearing up for action from day one of his presidency
Even though he assured us again on Tuesday - if assured is the right word? - that he will only take over the reins of power after Inauguration Day on 20 January, Barack Obama talks, decides and reasons as if those reins are already firmly in his hands.
He refers to his weekly radio address like a real president does.
Everything from his body language to his use of the present tense indicates that he already thinks of himself as the commander-in-chief, preparing everything for day one of America's 44th presidency.
The drastic times demand it, he tells us. But then so does his pragmatic and poignant nature, one might add. Compare his behaviour to the unbearable lightness of George W Bush.
Intellect
Mr Obama is not just announcing his cabinet much earlier than most other presidents-elect in transition. He is also telling us in greater detail what his policies will be.

He needs to get busy and warn the GOI not to torture or mistreat those poor terrorists in Mumbai.
The Bush gals are busy putting out the welcome mat, as well. I’m beginning to think they don’t see the whole thing as seriously as we do. Or they are just grateful to Obama for defeating the Clinton machine once and for all. If anyone can explain it I would appreciate it.
Sometimes I wonder about Republican politicians from that geographical area. They’re a different breed. Much like Texas Baptists do not resemble the Southern Baptists they split off from. I might get flamed unless, it is hoped, people are too full of turkey and cornbread stuffing to care.
Obama and “intellect”.
The Obama intellect.
Obama intellect?
No matter how I put it, the oxymoron still comes across.
How the heck can an empty suit, who has done nothing in his life, and has the least experience ever of any would-be president (yeah, he’s not president yet), receive so many unwarranted accolades from so many clueless and idiotic commentators? Oops! I just answered my own question. Those people are really clueless and idiotic.
We’re about to get served a turkey every day for the next four years. As for BBC, it must be horrible to get up every morning and see the same stupid person staring back.
Isn't it ironic how Obama is so against torturing terrorists, but he doesn't care a whit about the pain of babies that are TORTURED during an abortion. The man is the devil, I'm convinced.
“Much like Texas Baptists do not resemble the Southern Baptists they split off from”.
Correction: Much like A FACTION of Texas Baptists do not resemble the Southern Baptists they split off from.
BGCT
Obama is doing everything early - trying to insulate himself from the disqualification to come. Won’t work. Hillary is getting her people in place.
Love it! Very good!
Meaning?
Just a thought. By doing all of this he would very well be eliminating any ‘honeymoon’ period. He will be expected to solve problems right from the get-go.
Why not, Bush isn't using it... (/sarc)
And the sins of the fathers shall be the sins of the sons, unto the seventh generation.
All shall service The One (piss be upon him).
The Baptists I know consider themselves Southern Baptists and are members of Southern Baptist Churches. (Although I know a few Independent Baptists who are much more Conservative than the Southern Baptists). They are of the old “Hardshell” Baptist type.
That Soros controlling things from over there under the “red arrow” ?
Nice job.
The Baptist General Convention of Texas split with the Southern Baptist Convention over certain issues about which the BGCT thought the SBC was too conservative. I’m not sure at this point what percentage of Baptist churches in Texas are BGCT, SBC, joint membership, independent or whatever, but last I knew a large portion of them were BGCT which is not a conservative Baptist organization.
It sounds like the SBTC—Southern Baptists of Texas Convention—which was formed as a conservative response to the BGCT splitting off from the SBC and they ARE Southern Baptists. I’m glad you know some and may their tribe increase.
