68% Prefer “Merry Christmas” to “Happy Holidays” Thursday, November 27, 2008

Christmas is just around the corner, and a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 68% of American adults prefer stores to show signs saying “Merry Christmas” rather than "Happy Holidays."

Only one-quarter of adults (25%) favor signs that say “Happy Holidays.” Those figures are virtually unchanged from our survey conducted this time last year.

Men (71%) favor “Merry Christmas” slightly more than women (65%).

From a politically partisan perspective, Republicans (84%) overwhelmingly prefer “Merry Christmas” more than Democrats (51%). Far more Democrats (43%) wish for “Happy Holidays” signs than Republicans (13%).

I always say Merry Christmas and have never had anyone go nuts because I said it, this includes clerks at stores who are Christmas adverse.

i’m not religous, but i want traditional holidays and patriotic music.

reason—the left is undermining our society by removing these.

Why do people always say the same thing, I was thinking,, every time 2 people meet its “Hi I’m ____ nice to meet you”
and when a clerk rings you up how many people say thanks instead of your WELCOME. I have been saying thanks because I wouldnt want to be a cashier but seriously it should be your welcome because you are keeping their store in business.

Polls are snapshots but one conclusion can be drawn: Democrats equate tolerance with cowardice.

I will never say happy Holidays again in my lifetime unless it’s to someone I know to Jewish or maybe some other religion.

Period.

The older I get the less appreciation I have for diversity.

I’ve been putting “happy holidays’ on all my Christmas cards for a few years now. I’m going to write Merry Christmas from now on. I have a lot of Jewish friends and if any of them get offended, they can complain to me and I’ll take them off the damn list. It’s my small part, but I’m sick of it too. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I just loved this a.m.’s attack on the Catholic Church by NBC, as a prelude to the Macy Parade, they just had to have some lezzie butch females performing Mass and doing it on TV (gotta’ catch the children’s audience, too, don’t we). Can’t wait to see what else is in store for Christians this Christmas season.

I had lots of fun last year sending Christmas emails and Christian Christmas cards to the ACLU:

Gotta’ do it this year too! How’z about us Freepers sending them one too. Merry Christmas everyone!

I ALWAYS say Merry Christmas . . . I’m a Christian . . . if they say Happy Hannukah, I say thank you, and I mean it. Very simple and respectful, I think. But I ALWAY SAY “MERRY CHRISTMAS!”

Add an atheist to that list.

Nothing annoys me more at Christmas than the phrase “Happy Holidays”.

PC garbage. Nothing more.

If I ever do say it, I make sure to pronounce it Happy “Holy-days” to emphasize the origin of the word holidays.

Civilized life requires a culture and a system of values. The attempts to remove values from our lives and our laws, are attempts to eradicate laws, lives and civilization.

Prefer? That’s a rather limp description.
I detest people saying “Happy Holidays”. It instantly brands them as Liberals. Conservatives will say “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Chanukah”, neither of which offend me. I have a lot of Buddhist friends and they are more into Christmas than many Christians. This simple gesture says that they stand for something and are not just sheeple.

I my independently conducted poll (of me) 100% of the respondents were so sick of this crap and the big deal made over it.And wish people had more important things on their minds... but then again 50% of the people voted for Obama, so i have little faith in the intelligence of future generations
