HARRISBURG, Pa. - A Pennsylvania woman sued a sheriff Monday who revoked her concealed-weapons permit after she upset fellow parents by wearing her holstered pistol to her 5-year-old daughter's soccer game.
Meleanie Hain alleges in the federal lawsuit that Lebanon County Sheriff Michael DeLeo violated her Second Amendment rights and prosecuted her maliciously when he took away her permit in September.
**********
Hain said Monday that her baby-sitting service has suffered, her children have been harassed, and she has been ostracized by her neighbors because of DeLeo's actions. In one instance, she said, a neighbor who saw her in a local store had the manager ask her to leave because she was carrying her handgun.
"I fought for my right, and now I'm still being punished," she said.

To what, exactly, are you referring?
Open Carry? ... even if legal in your state is just plain stupid ... and a little “arrogant” (look at me I have a gun!). The LAST thing you want your enemy to know is that you HAVE a gun in the first place ... its the surprise that gives the advantage. Open carry = “bling” in my book. (I enjoy being “among” my lib friends (who hate guns) fully armed with a 357 magnum and they have no idea.)
2) It does remove some tactical advantage, and could make you the first target.
3) Some cops are less informed about the law than many gun-owners, and make seize upon it as an opportunity to harass a law abiding citizen.
There are others, but I see these as the big three.
Ok, I understand where you are coming from, and thanks for the clarification. Foxnews carries AP most likely as a business decision. They have a plethora of reporters all over the world that FOX could not compete with. This service to FOX costs perhaps $1M a year, a relatively inexpensive way to get news from all over the world. Fox, of course, does post on-line some stories written by the AP, but has editorial rights.
AP also provides a "breaking news" product, which it no longer wants to sell. Foxnews-TV wants to continue to purchase this product, as it is the major AP product that fits the mold for TV. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the next round of contract negotiations.
I recently open-carried while speaking at a public meeting and NO ONE in the room even realized I was wearing a gun until I referred to it as part of my testimony.
Then the reaction was: "Oh, I thought that was a cell phone case", and other simlar comments.
Oh, and will you please explain why carrying a self-defense weapon is "stupid" or "arrogant"?
Here in Virginia, that is the law, howbeit stupid. The only other choice is to leave your weapon in the car, where it does you absolutely no good if needed, or could be stolen. We have been trying to get this stipulation removed from the books and came close this year, but our RAT governor vetoed it.
2) As I state in another post, most people do not even SEE it on my belt. And I CAN bring an unconcealed weapon to bear quicker than i can a concealed one.
3) The vast majority of the cops where I live DO know the law. Some have even thanked me for carrying.
RE: CCW - Doesn't the fact that being REQUIRED to have a "permit" in order to carry your weapon concealed is a clear violation of "shall not be infringed" bother you at all?
Please tell me that you are being facetious.
By the way, one of the pictures on your own “About” page depicts a man open-carrying. He is standing with a little girl (probably his daughter) and is obviously ready to protect her. Good guy, that.
A slight correction to this statement...
Right to Bear Arms Section 21. The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned.
It is the law as written in the constitution of Pennsylvania.
Also in another post, someone else mentions using firearms near the kids. This is typical a assumption of the general public given the anti gun sentiment doled out by the msm. How about using the firearm to protect the kids? Why isn't this the first thing that comes to mind?
No, I’m not. She is local. Her picture is in the paper a couple times a week. She is enjoying this attention.
I don’t care where you or anyone carries a legal firearm.
Obviously, this woman upset a group of women with six year
old girls.
I hope you're just trying to be cute. Your statement is stupid. It's patently absurd to think she carries a gun to protect herself from six year old children. Trouble can find you anywhere, even at a children's soccer game, and certainly coming and going from same.
Hey man, we are on the same side (and in the same state, er..ah.. commonwealth). I have never been harassed for open carrying either, as a matter of fact I have been complemented many times on my choice of weapons (usually a 1911). I really don’t give a fig about any of the three reasons I listed. They are just the ones I hear most often from folks who have no tolerance for those of us who choose, or are required sometimes, to open carry. I have a Virginia CHP, but many folks who open carry do not, and are opposed to having to ask the government for the permission to exercise their rights. I have many friends that choose not to get a CHP for that very reason, and their only “legal” option is to open carry.
Waaaah!
And that’s her fault HOW?
People CHOOSE whether to be “upset” or not.
Nope, I am not trying to be cute (and it’s silly to say such). The idea that there might be some type of threat at a soccer game played by six year olds is nonsensical, especially in the area in which she lives. What is she protecting herself from? I have seen enough of her on the local news (her smirk before the cameras) to draw my conclusion that she is enjoying this too much.
I hope you said because The Constitution SAYS I can. That's the only reason anyone needs to hear....period.
Yes, we are on the same side. I am a member of VCDL.
Now, with that and my screen name you can even figure out exactly who I am. ;^)
I am one of those who is opposed to having to ask my government whether it is okay for me to exercise my God-given rights. However, I am on the verge of “relenting” and going ahead and getting the permit to avoid ANY possible “issues” while I have my gun in my car with me. I only hope I won’t feel like too much of a “sell out” to the cause of freedom.
Yes, open-carrying a 1911 DOES tend to attract a bit of attention because it is difficult to carry such a large weapon discretely.
A 5-shot .357/.38+P S&W revolver in a dark colored holster, however, can be carried on a semi-wide dark colored belt without most people even noticing it. The majority of those who DO notice it take it for a Blackberry holster or something. And of course, I do NOT make a big deal about carrying it. I seldom have ANY issues with anyone (with one notable recent exception, with a happy ending, which I detailed in the VCDL newsletter).
Try this one: The idea that a crazed gunman would kill more than 30 people on a University campus peopled with peace-loving college students is nonsensical, especially in the area where Virginia Tech is.
You are too ignorant of the issues surrounding this topic to even carry on a meaningful conversation.
