Rick and I served in the Indiana House of Representatives together.

He ran for Congress in 1984 against Frank McCloskey in a race that came to give that Congressional District in southern Indiana the term the “Bloody Eighth.” After several recounts of that election - and after the State of Indiana certified Rick McIntyre as the winner - the US House of Representatives voted to declare McCloskey the winner.

I remember when that happened. I could not believe the Republicans let them get away with that.
