Especially when you consider that Illinoisistan is one of only two states in the entire union that absolutely and categorically forbids CCW for it's law abiding citizens.

All of the states laws serve only to empower the lawbreakers and endanger the noncriminals.

What a sad state of affairs.

What is the penalty for being caught with a handgun?

On the surface in most of the state it doesn't look or sound that bad. A person is allowed to protect themselves and their family without too much concern. Sombody breaks into your house you're on pretty solid ground if you wax their ass. This isn't always the case around Shitcago. Seems to me-and I'm just commenting on what I see-that local law enforcement has a lot of latitude in how these matters are handled. What gets you thrown in the slammer in Cook County may not even get you arrested downstate. It just depends-which is BS. There ought to be some consistency in how this stuff is played out.

What is consistent is that CCW is a no-no.

I think that some individuals are eligible for a CCW permit-retired law enforcement, judges etc., but for the regular Joe, if the thugs are coming after you, you'll need to wait for police assistance, or as some do anyway take care of them with a concealed weapon and hope for the best in courts. A lot of these cases seem to find sympathetic juries and the individual often goes free. Still a huge pain in the arse for exercising a basic RIGHT.
