WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A top Republican said on Friday that Democratic U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is "off to a good start" and indicated he was pleased to see President George W. Bush get ready to leave.

"Our members, in one way, are kind of relieved by the departure of an administration that became unpopular and made it very difficult for us to compete," Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell told reporters on Capitol Hill.

Why? Clearly the Senae Republicans are in some fairytale land where it’s all Bush’s fault. I doubt pointing out their approval ratings is enough to break them of the fantasy.

So when Bush is gone. And Obama continues on his “good star” the next two years, who are they going to blame in 2010 for the further erosion of the caucus? Oh yes, conservatives. The same conservatives they are holding up their middle finger towards telling to leave the party. As if many haven’t already.

Here, Here, Republicans need to PUBLICALLY say this now. Else would be political suicide (like the 900B financial bill was.) My concern is these moderate decisions are a road to 2010 victory, We MUST stir up the moonbats to keep his primary promises while we demand he keep his moderate promises. We need to track all his attacks on GWB and point out where he does the same, show he won by attack.

Some moonbats, who we need more (they need our support LOL) :

Is anyone still in doubt that John Boehner and Mitch McConnell should have been tossed from GOP leadership?

We all need to vote against the incumbents in every primary. You couldn't put a spine together using the whole lot of Washington Republicans. They're literally a disgrace.

Incompetent “leadership” by squalid RINOs in Congress had plenty to do with the decline of the Republican “brand”...... and I never saw any R. leadership from Congress conducting the kinds of investigations and hearings needed to exposed the real facts of Plamegate, the run-up to the Iraq War, and so many other subjects that have been used do dishonestly by the Demagogues and the Mediascum to cripple the Bush WH.

I just have to ask because it seems to be clear that Republican party is on a suicide mission or something. But when did the entire party get paid off to screw everyone of us in the ‘real world’? I must have missed the memo or something.

The above, combined with it being a Reuters piece, makes it an absolute given that a video of the incident must be produced to confirm that the quote did occur as stated.

I don’t remember any “top Democrats” saying that George Bush was off to a “good start” in 2000. I think they sent in a crowd of lawyers to steal the election, instead, and they opposed or dragged out every appointment he ever made.

And which strategy paid off best? The Democrats understand that this is war. Most Republicans haven’t woken up to it.

In a way, Bush deserves this slap by a fellow party member, because he provided the model for constantly reaching across the aisle while his enemies were attacking him and screwing our country. Didn’t work very well, did it, Mitch?

FRankly, Mitch has been a good leader given the circumstances. He has used the procedures of the Senate to stall the desires of that jerk Harry Reid, and he’s done so pretty effectively.

Mitch also is one of the few Republicans who used the internet to great advantage.

We shouldn’t rip the guy for saying the obvious. True conservatives in Congress WERE hamstrung by Bush’s “new tone” attitude. And complimenting the incoming President isn’t a sin, especially since he hasn’t done anything yet.

Hussein will give us plenty to rant about once he is in office, and Mitch will be there with us. Trent Lott he ain’t.

I guess keeping us safe for the past 7 years and without another attack on US soil wasn't good enough for some of these RINOs.

This seems like a good thread to insert a group of pithy sayinga about govt. and pols thru the years. Sent to me by a friend. I didn't know how to post it.

McConnell seem to fit the 2d pithy Mark Twain statement.

Notice how many of these people from hundreds and thousands of years ago perfectly understood govt. as we know it. I esp. like Herbert Spencer, Voltaire (redistribution is an old and failed idea),all of Twain, and Churchill's contrasting of capitalism and socialism.. AGELESS WIT AND OBSERVATIONS

Sure. I’m sure Mitch will do just swell. Nevermind he supported amnesty, or pushed the bailout down our throats or that they want to ice out DeMint because DeMint wants them to stand on consrvative principles and even shockingly discipline their own such as expelling Stevens.

So what if he’s smarter then Reid. 80% of the population likely is. If he uses those skills to hurt the brand of the party and betray our principles then he’s useless.

he is no true conservative, hasn’t been for a long time if he ever was.

Nor if Obama off to a good start, or did you miss some of his proposals and cabinet selections that have wall street in a panic?

The failed Obama administrations stewardship of the Economy has been ABYSMAL.

And that was before he assumed power. If you think it is bad now, wait 6 months. After January 20,2009 each day will be worse than the one before it. i.e.Tuesday will be worse than Monday, Wednesday will be worse than Tuesday......

The Republican Party has become a second-rate Democrat Party. Vote for us because we aren’t quite as bad. But give us time were catching up. Name two Republicans who are for small government. At best GOP’s are for “smaller government”. Smaller than what Dems are currently proposing but bigger than what Dems were proposing 10 years ago. Your favorite GOP’s answer to everything is tax cuts. All the time expanding government. When was the last GOP to propose eliminating a federal department? They even brag that their tax plans will bring in more money. That’s conservative? That is a joke.
Name two GOP’s who are to the right of FDR. That is, who would take us back to pre-FDR era.
Face it RINO is simply R.
