Centrist by Definition

I have always viewed conservatism as the centrist position between the extremes of left wing totalitarianism and right wing anarchy. Conservatives have always had the more difficult task of defining the balance between the interests of the individual and the interests of society. From this viewpoint, communism, theocracy, monarchy and their derivatives are left to extreme left. Anarchy is a virtual impossibility since any collective action by anarchists to promote anarchy is oxymoronic. Hayek’s idea of spontaneous order works against anarchy.

The human desire for social interaction and the obvious benefits of cooperation compete with an irrepressible desire to remain distinctly individual and to exercise free will. Conservatism’s challenge is to reconcile these competing desires. Unlike leftist ideologies and ideologues, conservatism makes no claim to create paradise on earth but only to create an environment where individuals can enjoy relative happiness from their own efforts and freedom without denying others the same rights. Indeed, conservatism recognizes a collective responsibility to assure individual freedom.

Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, conservatives are the reasonable centrists between leftist despots and right wing anarchists. Too bad the left wing despots have managed to fool the people into thinking they are people who believe in the constitutional rights of the people.

Sounds like Reagan style politics to me.

conservatives believe that most people are good and want freedom but some people are really bad and need to be smacked down.

The author is confused.

Anarchism is a technique used by Marxists to
create the climate in order to seize power.

I have always loved our great country and always will. But I have lost faith in the concept of democracy. I remember years ago, the John Birch Society had this slogan and bumpersticker: A Republic, not a Democracy. At the time, I thought it was a rather trivial point to make. Now, I get it. Now that it is too late.

Let’s face it, we live in an Obama Nation. This is now the United Socialist States of America—the USSA. Our young people have had their heads filled with liberal/left/pc mush and execrement indoctrinated into them by neo-Stalinist teacher unions. Hollyweird celebutards have further contributed to the rot with their disgusting and depraved antics and pronouncements. And, of course, we have the leftstream media promoting the Deity-elect every step of the way. Even the Republican standard-bearer contributed to the dumbing down of democracy by participating in such programs as Saturday Night Live, Ellen, the View, and Letterman. These are no longer elections per se, but rather popularity contests and reality shows. No wonder the youthful looking, charismatic metrosexual had no real competition the way these American Idol contests are currently structured. Did anyone happen to see the Obama girl last night on the O’Reilly Factor? I just wanted to vomit. What a vacuous, brainless nitwit. Obamamania at its mindless worst.

Our Founding Fathers originally set up a republic. The right to cast ballots was only given to property owning males. I now see the wisdom of that set up. Democracy, much like retirement, is an over-rated concept.

“Whether anyone wants to believe it or not, conservatives are the reasonable centrists between leftist despots and right wing anarchists.”

Why are anarchists “right-wing?” Why are despots “leftist.” A despot is a despot, regardless of labels. Styles of despotism change. But the core truth of the despot is constant.

There is much truth in this article. But the labels are sloppy.
